Across 1 matching discussions, The most frequently discussed action is 'Use google maps' (1 discussions). For that action, 0 discussions report a resolution and 0 report an unsuccessful attempt. Source reports, not a diagnosis or a success probability. Counts refer to discussions and can overlap.
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

I recently purchased a 2001 996 Cabriolet (2 weeks ago), white with the blue top and interior, Tubi aftermarket exhaust
and I have to say I absolutely love it. Its an addiction if you ask me. To the 996 haters out there I just have to say, why? Because the headlights are different, or its water cooled? Cmon, you never even gave the car a shot. This car is awesome all around, great pick up from a stop, handling like no other, and a very respectable top end. Sure there could be an IMS bearing issue, but the cure is about $2500 if not already completed (this car had it done prior) and I am sorry to say if you are sweating over spending $2500 on peace of mind, you shouldn't own a Porsche! Ive owned several cars over the years, '91 Corvette Zr1, 70 Chevelle with a 350, 90 Thunderbird Super Coupe (this car was a blast because it was a sleeper) 76 Firebird Formula with a small block 400, 87 Mitsubishi Station Turbo, the list goes on and on but this is by far the best all around car of them all. I did own all these in my early 20s, and now I am soon to be 40 so maybe my tastes have changed.
Anyway I just wanted to say thank you because this forum has been awesome in helping me make an informed decision on a 996 and boy am I glad I didn't listen to the naysayers!.
Some interior pictures as requested. Overall really good shape for the year. I ordered a double din radio with nav along with the install kit. Should be here today and hoping to install it tomorrow, I will post back pics when done. If anyone has some advice on the install, I am all ears!!
Thanks Anestheticg!! That was the one thing the wife would not compromise on, she wanted a WHITE convertible and let me tell you, white must be rare seems like there were thousands of every color but white. We searched the whole country over the last year and finally found this one and it was in remarkably good condition!
Yes, white does not seem to be a common color at all. Lots of black and silver. Enjoy your new car... nothing like that sound coming from behind you at 5k rpm
Nice color combo, me likes! I’ll be going from a ‘99 black coupe to a ‘19 Cab S, racing yellow on black. I did see a 991.2 white and blue, it did get my attention.
That is a nice color and thanks for the pic with the wing up, I only see maybe an inch out the back window when it's up. (I know I can push the button)
Thank for all your kind comments guys!! To me, nothing looks better on a car than white but everyone has their own preference. It took years for me to find the right one (wife was particular) but I am happy I didn't settle!
TH964, I am fortunate to have a few toys laying around for those sunny days, boating and jet skis can bring a lot of smiles as well.
I am currently taking my dash apart in an attempt to install a new double din radio, wish me luck!
Horsepwr, I hope you take some pix of your radio installation. I'd like to see what you've done. This is a pic of my '02 Cab out for it's first drive of 2018!
BBBOOMER67 thanks, I am digging the color of your car, looks fantastic. You still have snow up there in Vermont or was this taken a few weeks back? Here are a couple pics of the install, I will post more when officially completed I still need to route the Bluetooth microphone (Not sure where I want it yet) and need the adaptor/USB mount so I can convert the old cigarette lighter spot into the USB port got the Apple play feature of the radio. Overall its a badass upgrade and takes the car from looking like an '01, to looking like a '15+
Will do! Expecting delivery early October. Believe it or not, I bought on faith, as no dealer had racing yellow on their lots. Actually, I have the Corvette to thank for my interest in Racing Yellow. I saw one on the Beltway in DC and said "Wow". .....In the end it was between Miami Blue, Guards Red or RL.....
Meanwhile, here's my '99 black 996 coupe, which goes in the shop next week for IMS/RMS/AOS/clutch. Bought it new and will be keeping it.
Thanks, Horsepwr, I like the Lapis blue myself...it glows in the sun! This photo was taken this past Monday. I was able to get out for a drive on Tuesday as well with the top down. Now, we have rain for the next few days so that gives me time to think about double din installations! I bought this car last October in NC, drove it 1,000 miles home, had the IMSB, clutch, flywheel, and RMS done before parking it for the winter.
This winter, I added an Aux in jack to the Becker CDR220 and will live with it for the summer before deciding about Bluetooth and Nav. For now, I'll use Google Maps on my iPhone. Nice job on your installation!
John
Thanks, its not quite done as it got late last night. I had to take it back out because they send the wiring harness incorrect, it had the hot to the ignition and the ignition to hot so it wouldn't hole memory. Had to take it out and swap the wires UGH. Ill put back together today.
Here is the "completed install" The only thing I need is a piece that would go where the cigarette lighter used to be to hold the USB. I know I've seen them, anyone know where I can get one? Thanks guys!
Wow! That is awesome, I was looking on how beautiful your car was, then realized I havent really seen any other white ones. Great choice! It is beautiful! Enjoy!
Thanks Professor, I truly appreciate your kind words. It took years of looking (and the GF not settling for anything but white) and we found the right one. It truly is a stunning piece of machinery. Im digging the hunter green as well, I never see those either. Very pretty
Final piece came in from amazon, and the double din conversion is complete! I'm very excited how it makes the car look 10 years newer. I can't believe the local radio install place wanted over $2300 to do what took me a total of 5 hours and all of $400 to complete. And I know now I could do it in about 1.5 hours so they are just robbing people!
Looks great. I had mine in my boxster before, so I swapped it to the 911 when I upgraded. I love how much more modern it looks. I just found the hack to get a Porsche logo on my boot up screen on my Alpine, so I am going to work on that tonight. You can check to see if yours offer that option as well. I found a nice Porsche logo with wet water background.
