Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

0 original-poster resolution reports. Counts can overlap; they are not unique people or a success rate.
0 discussions have direct query context; 0 report a fix in that context. Other evidence may inherit the discussion’s subject.
Reported cause
Last time someone had this issue it turned out to be a less than tight ground connection on the battery.
Leading evidence: 'less than tight ground connection' (1 discussions report identifying this cause; no attributable repair resolution). Across 1 matching discussions, the most frequently mentioned possible cause is 'less than tight ground connection' (1 discussions; 1 report identifying it and 0 suggest it). The most frequently discussed action is 'Check amp draw whilst' (1 discussions). For that action, 0 discussions report a resolution and 0 report an unsuccessful attempt. No action has an explicit, attributable resolution report under the current rules. These are forum reports and suggestions, not a confirmed diagnosis.

Suggestion
Check the engine ground wire and make sure it is clean and tight.
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Anyone know if the BMS needs to know its a new battery/ Or will it not start? Is there a way to immobilize the immobilizer? Last question best diagnostic tool for immobilizer reset? My OTc genisys 5.0 doesn't seem to communicate well with porsches
First check fuses C1 to C4 and E1.
Jumper the clutch switch if stick shift.
Try another key.
Does the starter even crank?
No, the car doesn't care about if the battety is new or not as long as it's healthy.
Thanks for replying. I did check all the fuses. I jumped the clutch safety switch.(nothing new) I have two keys that used to work great (New batteries in them) tried both. Brand new Interstate battery h7. It was running one day then not. It wont even get to the crank stage. Turn key all the way all lights lite up but no cranking. Doors lock fine. Alarm beeps. Stored in garage not wet. I wish I could get to the immobilizer setup and delete or reset. But thanks for sending information
Make sure your battery cables are seated and tight. Last time someone had this issue it turned out to be a less than tight ground connection on the battery.
Has the starter "Y" cable ever been replaced?
Any water intrusion to the immobilizer?
You may need to access the rear relay panel to do more troubleahooting to eliminate a few things such as the ignition switch and start locl relay.
Re diagnostic tools, the one closest to the factory tool is Durametric but even thay, I'm not sure how much it can help you troubleshoot.
No one on this forum thinks throwing parts at an undiagnosed problem is the thing to do. Yet that maybe your quickest solution.
My 996 had these same symptoms. I recommend just buying a start lock relay. Cheap enough and insurance down the road. Part # 9961511000.
Under $25.00. You can also check AMP draw whilst
turning ignition. Hope this helps.,..
Just FYI...there is no way to access the immobilizer setup, delete or reset. Only a dealer can do that level of programming. I would start with something simple, as suggested make sure the battery connections are clean and tight. Make sure the ground cable from the battery is connected and clean and tight. Measure voltage across the terminals, should be 12-13V at the terminals. Then check your voltage at the jumper points in the engine bay. Check the engine ground wire and make sure it is clean and tight. Get a new start/lock relay and replace. Check all fuses. Then it is time to move to more serious stuff.
In the time it took to write this I see the other posts. Let us know if replacing the relay works. What does the voltmeter read when you turn the key to on?
Since you're accessing the relay, may as well do the following checks while you're there.
Verify 12v between pin 85 and 86 of the relay (test probes on pin 85 and pin 86 socket side with the relay removed) when you turn the key to the last position before crank and press in the clutch at the same time. If OK, your immobilizer is fine.
Verify +12v on pin 30 when you turn the key to the cranking position. if ok, your ignition switch is fine.
You will be better served following Ahsai's trouble shooting. I got a little lazy, plus had no access to my manual. If you have a multi tester and a little time check the voltages. 10.00 dollars for a ignition contact block is cheap. I think I paid $30.00. Was an Audi part number.
Be sure to also check fuse B-8. Also test the fuses - don't just do a visual check. Dealer charged me nearly $500 just to find I had a bad B-8 fuse. It didn't look bad unless you held it up to the light, which is hard to do when your head is in the footwell. They only found it when they were checking wire continuity from the DME to the fuse block.
Yet another 996 question associated with the deadly alarm/immobilzer
Can anyone tell me if I can replace just the alarm sensor transponder
99661815901 part without a code/serial number etc issue immoblilizing me even more?
Thanks again for all your answers. They have been very helpful
2002 911 Targa Wont start
January 27th - first post 2002 911 Targa won't start
March 29th - "deadly alarm/immobilizer" and car won't start
2 whole months. Hmmmm...have you done the system checking as suggested? Fuses, relays and so on? The immobilizer is there so someone cannot steal your car. It is not deadly. My advice is to call a flat bed and have it taken to a professional.
will not start
I did buy the Durametric recently
It indicates a faulty alarm module
I have gone through the fuses relays battery grounds. All the suggestions from the list. Some thing is still blocking the start function. Its a project that is tough to get at with life in the way. But never say never
durametric says under i48 alarm gives a red exclamation point 33 code w lead (dme immoblizer)
then farther down the list it gives a 21 code red exclamation point control unit faulty
also in one of the lists it shows immoblizer as active dont know if that means its on or just ready
thanks in advance for any information
Do you have any aftermarket electronics connected to the car in any way? Anything you plug in or tap power from the OBDII port? I don't have the manual now but I could check those codes for you later.
Ok, code 33 is passenger side monitor. This should not affect engine start so you can ignore it for now.
Code 21 is the "W" lead between the DME and the alarm (immobilizer). Diagnostic calls for ohming out that wire. You may want to use Durametric to clear the alarm code and see if code 21 cones back first.
