We just received the oil analysis back today, and that completed the full spectrum of tests for the vehicle we used for the video..

I have approx 38K miles on the motor so both the outside and inside are relatively clean other than the cosmolene

You have access to bank 2 through the sump plate using an amazon borescope.

after a borescope inspection
I had one or possibly two of the Symptoms Jake noted in his most recent video 3B, (which by the way are a fantastic service to Rennlisters ) "lifter noise" on startup.
Also my oil consumption is no way near my Boxster S usage (none), but then again, Jake recommends keeping oil level in middle of range or ticks on dash meter.
I'll start there once my last top off moves down and have recorded the mileage.
You have access to bank 2 through the sump plate using an amazon borescope. For bank 1 you need a medical grade borescope, which is smaller in size. I remember reading Raby's posts recently that even the medical grade borescope has trouble seeing all of the cylinders on bank 1.
You have to manipulate the crank for each BDC of the cylinder but once you get the hang of it you can get a decent look at each wall top and bottom.
Every picture of m96 bore scoring I've seen shows lines pretty far up the wall, which I did not see. the walls were shiny and clear.
Sump had no residual flakes and had that nice light brown color.
The scoring reminds me of the Chevrolet Vega motor in the day. if motor got hot due to failed water pump it opened up and piston slap tore through the embedded silicone walls. Scoring the cylinders that you had to remove the block and have it iron sleeved for repair.
On M96 I only did Bank 2 as I started with 4-5-6 and didn't see any wear on each of those. I'll look at bank1 when I pull and replace the plugs next.
I did see carbon buildup on crown and valve releifs but around the edge of the piston top it was pretty good, to where I could read the numbers on the tops.

I got a 5.5 mm borescope off CPOoutlet.com (tool site). 155.00 well spent.
Part 4 of the Bore Score series (Diagnosis) has been completed. We just received the oil analysis back today, and that completed the full spectrum of tests for the vehicle we used for the video.. This was a real customer’s car from Atlanta... All the symptoms.
Unfortunately he bailed, and either put a used engine in the car, or a cheap rebuild. No worries- we’ll see him again in the future.
We could go live with the video tomorrow, but too many people are away on Spring Break this week, and we desperately need 250 more subscribers to get to the next level on youtube, so we can keep doing these videos. We plan to drop the video on Monday, so stay tuned..
