Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

Suggestion
For an average DIY'er who works mainly on his/her own 996 I would recommend the Durametric enthusiast version.

Coverage and how to read this overview
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.
18 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

This past weekend I replaced the grey switch which prevents the car from starting unless the clutch is depressed. Now I have an airbag failure light. During the process I moved my driver's seat all the way back. Could I have knocked a wire loose? What should I look for? It's also my understanding that to have the light reset, I need to see a dealer or use the Durametric tool, correct? Thanks!
IMHO, the clutch switch has nothing to do with this fault, but messing with the seat does. I've experienced this myself. My advice is to disconnect and examine the main connection(s) to the seat. Make sure they're connected properly. Then using a scan tool, reset the airbag light. You don't have to own a Durametric or Porsche PIWIS system to reset the airbag fault light. Many of the cheap scan tool will read the SRS module.
Depends on the scanner. If the scanner will communicate with the air bag module it will/should be capable of clearing codes. For example, a lot of your hand held $75 or less scan tools only talk to the Engine and sometimes abs computer. Those will not be able to help you. If the scanner can see and talk to the air bag module it should be able to clear the codes.
Can't help ya on that side. Everything i own is high $ stuff. maybe a durametric if ya wanna spend $700 for the pro version or about $300 for the average consumer?
For an average DIY'er who works mainly on his/her own 996 I would recommend the Durametric enthusiast version. It has the 3 VINs limitation but you can easily sell it for the rest of the two unused VINs pro-rated.
Just came across someone that sold his car and is selling a Durametric cable cheap if interested PM me and I'll see if it's still available.
Used Durametric can be had for $200. I got an unused one for $200.00 on ebay.
Have you personally tried it on the 996? I have now ran across a few different devices which
claim
to be able to reset the light, but then find reviews from real users saying otherwise.
Yes, I have used it on both my 2000 and 2002 996. It successfully reset the airbag lights on both. If you are anywhere near me, I'd be happy to plug it in and reset the light for you. I paid closer to $150 on a year end holiday sale, but I'm not sure what the going rate is.
Chances are that the seat belt buckle has a intermittent problem with the micro switch. You can look under the seat to see if all the electrical connectors are plugged in.
I plan to get a Durametric eventually but I've yet to see a

list of what the Pro does vs the Enthusiast for a
996
. Do you (or anyone) know? IMHO the Durametric site is vague on this.
I was on the Durametric site yesterday and thought it was quite detailed comparing the two.
They also responded to my email within a couple of hours answering my questions.
Hmmm...
Either I missed the Coding* footnote, or it wasn't there the last time I visited the site. Probably the former. Thanks for making me study it!
There will probably be a Enthusiast version in my (somewhat) near future.
