The car is just for running around when I am in town, not a daily driver for sure.

I just got my Apex SM10 wheels in my avatar for about $1400 and was able to use my almost new michelins that were on my factory turbo twist.

Not to mention for the money your friend is asking you could get a nice set of aftermarkets and use your stock tires for the same or less.
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

I have read a few threads on going up on rims and am just not sure which way to go. Any sound advice is more than welcome.
I have a '99 Carrera Coup with stock 17" Turbo Twists. The current tires are in good shape. My car had an upgraded suspension put in prior to my purchase. My indy tells me they are fully adjustable for height. My indy just pulled the
'lobster" rims and new Hankook tires off his '08 Cayman and wants to sell them to me for $1800. He is autocrossing the Cayman and put lighter rims and stickier tires on his car. They are 19" wheels. The Hankook tires are new and sizes are 265/35zr19 and 235/35zr19.
I don't know. Should I run and stay with stock size? The car is just for running around when I am in town, not a daily driver for sure. The car gets maybe 5,000 miles a year.

If I don't take them, anyone else is up for grabs, PM me and I'll hook you up in Seattle if you want them.
You would likely notice a harsher ride due to the lower sidewall on 19s, particularly coming from 17s. Tires will be more pricy too. From a style perspective, each has their own tastes.
The biggest issue about these types of threads is they are completely subjective. What i love you may hate. What i hate you may love. I will agree that staying with a 17 or 18 is perfect. 19 inch does give a harsh ride and the wheel/tire can easily be damaged by pot holes and road debris since there is not much rubber to protect. My opinion use to be to keep it stock or maybe a different stock porsche wheel. That was mainly just in case values went up. At this point i say do something to make your car stand out and be one of a kind. Not to mention for the money your friend is asking you could get a nice set of aftermarkets and use your stock tires for the same or less. Good luck.
Those wheels in the picture are the 18" Turbo Twists carried over from the 993 not 17". The 17" versions look much different. I've tried 19" on a 996 and went back to 18" wheels/tires. While I didn't notice any harshness in the ride compared to 18" wheels, they were heavier and did scrub. Something to think about.
Personally, the 18" OEM wheels are the best fit for this car.
Agree with everyone. If youre going to go up, go to 18s. You will have an easier time finding wheels and tires that meet the factory specs. I am a bit biased because I dont like the look of the lobster claws on 996s, however I do have 19s on my C4S and would rather have the extra rubber of the 18s.
Just check the date codes on the tires. If they are older than 6-7 years you should think about replacing them.

Hey Guys,
Great info and I will heed to everyone's advice to stay with what I got
The rims were silver and some road rash so I had them cleaned up and powder coated matte black, so they are "new to me".
That means I can do some other upgrades..…….. Yay!!!!!
Nutty Professor--I am not sure what I was thinking, you are correct on them being 18" wheels, not 17". Thanks for enlightening me.
It's so cool you guys know your stuff, for sure!!!!!
