I know its personal preference and the turbo twists are definitely easier to keep clean. But the car I'm looking at is the first I've seen with option 416 GT3 wheel 18" and they look exactly like the 10 spoke Sport Designs. Are they the same just new name? I just noticed that the "Turbo Twists" are different on the 2005 Turbo S than the other ones. I like those better!
I have seen the Sport Design wheels called 996.1 GT3 wheels. Note that they came in different widths. The GT3 wheels are 18x8 front and 18x10 rear. I have a set for my 99.

has a good list of Porsche wheels with pics, part numbers, and weights. The early 996s had the Turbo (Look) I wheel, which is a 993 part #. The ones with the thicker lip are Turbo (Look) II and are a 996 part #. The ten spoke are the SportDesign which come in four different widths but all 18" diameter.
When the first 996 GT3 cars were introduced in Europe (with taco spoiler) several years prior to the GT3 introduced stateside in 2004, these Sport Design were the wheels. The fronts were 8 inches wide, not 7.5 as we usually find.
Source is an Excellence magazine sitting in my stack at home with an article on the European 996 GT3 introduction. Sorry I don't have the issue number handy, but it was a yellow car in the article.
The Techno Twists came stock on 2005 Turbo S . I like them. The car I'm buying has the sport design 10 spokes as an option. I like them but I think I'm going to look for a set of Techno twists as I like them better!
Tire Rack sells a Techno Twist knockoff. Would suggest you pull the wheels and check for Porsche part numbers unless you have a Build Sheet that shows they came with the car.
