Read evidence and context
Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

I removed the airbag from my 996 30 seconds after disconnecting the battery (almost unplugged it while battery was still hooked up) to repair the horn switch plate.

Ill keep my eye out for some other used pieces here and there if the price is right.
These are separate views of the same evidence. Frequency alone does not establish a fix, and these counts must not be added together.

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

It took me three weeks to figure out what I was going to do for colors leather or alcantara. I think the steering wheel is the key element in the interior of our cars.
Now that its done I am looking forward to getting it back and installing it. A bit nervous about the install. I have never messed with a steering wheel with airbag. Ill get it done though. I cannot day enough about Donald from Dallas steering wheel. They dont come any better then him.
Here is some eye candy-
That looks great! I will admit I was slightly nervous when uninstalling my airbag even though the battery had been disconnected for well over 30 mins. I agree, that wheel should really bring up the look of the car's interior!
I like the covered wheel but not the covered airbag. How is that airbag going to react when it get's deployed? The extra covering and that metal logo in the middle is not what the unit was designed for.
I'm assuming it must be 'approved' otherwise the vendors liability insurance wouldn't insure them? I may be totally wrong, but id never put myself/company out there without being insured.
Looks very nice.
A couple of points please.
First the wheel had the Porsche crest to start with from the factory.
Secondly the entire wheel and airbag are stripped of all existing factory leathers.
Finally the wheel is no different after being recovered then when new.
I did my homework. Its totally fine. The airbag cover doesnt come blowing off in your face lol. What kind of safety design would that be?
I do have to say that the majority of us here drive 911s one of the fastest cars on the planet and to drive it like its meant to be you do need to have a set of *****. Unless of course your main concern is how your hair looks when the top is down LOL. We got them too. In my opinion crashing this car and having an airbag cover hit me in the face would probably be a bonus given the fact that my car would be destroyed. Thats tongue in cheek BTW
I absolutely love 911s. When I sold my last car in 2008 after the crash in the economy I was literally depressed for a long time. My 911 is part of my being.
Great forum and a great bunch of guys!
I removed the airbag from my 996 30 seconds after disconnecting the battery (almost unplugged it while battery was still hooked up) to repair the horn switch plate. Used a flathead to pry the connector off the airbag and set it aside. No explosions, no issues, no airbag lights after.
I havent taken it out of storage yet.
I literally have a pile of new parts set aside.
As far as the carbon fiber I just want a few shuttle touches to start with. Ill keep my eye out for some other used pieces here and there if the price is right. I sold the steeeing wheel. I just dont like that look on the wheel. Alcantara is cool and luxurious at the same time. Again my opinion.
I cant wait to get this wheel and the Fisters on first!
