Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 4 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I know the owner personally. He took great care of it....😜

POST 7Original post

I may bid on it....its a nice car....would have rather not done on BaT though.

POST 8Original post

Eh...All the bling (very shiny! it does look great) and little mods, and it's still got cloudy, yellowed headlights... for such a simple/affordable fix, I find it somewhat shocking that someone looking to sell a car (especially one that appeals to OCD types such as us) would leave such a glaring deficiency unattended to. Another big minus is no full leather. I think right around $20k is a fair price

POST 9 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

The headlights arent cloudy in the flesh. May just be the photos. I did the 3M polish kit on them last year.

POST 10Original post

Hmmm... strange - they sure look yellow and cloudy in the photo's - maybe bad lighting? I just looked again - did he have the lights on? It looks like they're plain halogens - which would have that yellowish incandescent color...

POST 11Original post

Folks, this is a factory aero car with good service history. That's a game changer for the deep pocket bidders. I predict this one may hit close to $30K.

POST 12Original post

Reserve not met...modded 996’s don’t always do that great there. It’s a nice car. I think the wheels and mods scare away the old guys with all the money. it would be a really good deal at 23k. But could see it getting higher easily.

I took the pics early in the morning and the sun was hitting the front of the car directly. And they are halogens, not litronics. Just ran out to the garage and took this. May be a better representation.

POST 14 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Quotes source post: 15707833

Only mods are the wheels and the clear side markers. Oh, and I have the old pumpkins in a box for the next owner.

POST 15Original post

Quotes source post: 15707833

I mean no disrespect, but this car is as close to factory original as it gets. The Aero kit is factory. This is NOT a mod. The only things that I can see that are changed out are the wheels and radio which most collectors don't care about. Of course, if Bash Hat has the original wheels, that would be a plus for the auction.

POST 16Original post

Holy moly! I just noticed... This thing has factory limited slip differential? Ah yea, it's definitely gonna hit $30K. Be thankful Bash Hat, this is one nice car.

POST 17 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I bought the car from a previous owner who was a PCA and 6sp Online member. He had 19 champion RG5s on it. I sold them a couple months ago and went with the 18 Apex SM-10s. Car rides a little better with the 18s.

Thank you NP. That would be nice if it did.

As someone who owns a 99 with XAA, LSD and 87,000 miles I sure hope it does!

POST 21Original post

Is the radio aftermarket? Its not mentioned in the listing or clear from the photos. Could use more interior photos, and more detail photos overall. And the exhaust is modded as well, though I think thats a good thing! I think this will do about 24k, in large part to the great sounds on the video 👍

POST 22 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

It has an Alpine single din radio. Honestly I never even thought to mention it. I think Ive turned the radio on maybe 4 or 5 times during my ownership. I much prefer listening to the exhaust noise 😁

POST 23Original post

Good to see well taken care of cars bringing decent money

POST 24Original post

I'm always too low on the totem pole, so I'll get a little bolder this time. Fac aero, 220, 222, 224 and the good lights. I will say $28,996. Not a bidder, don't care for black, but this is a very nice example. A few over-revs might be the only negative.

It could be a "one and done" depending on how many miles you drive. We average about 2000-2500/year. It would take me a long time to need another replacement. I am sure bore scoring will happen prior to then LMFAO. Spring is almost here, can't wait to wake sleeping beauty....

Do you know the LN bearing has a service life of 4-6 years?

POST 27 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Any chance we cannot turn this into another IMS thread?

Bearings have a shelf life?......hmm Ok.

POST 31Original post

Quotes source post: 15708251

I agree. I haven't spent anytime watching this (BaT)site, but I am now, thanks. Looks likes bidding has slowed. Does it get frenzied at the last minute ? Good luck with sale! The video is sweet music.😎

POST 32 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Quotes source post: 15713772

Thank you. I was pleasantly surprised it went to $20k so quickly. I suspect it will remain there until the last few hours. BaT auctions tend to see a lot of bids close to the end.

Just sold for $25K............................

I was close but it looks like you called it closest. Either way I think it was a solid sale and shows that early Aerokits will continue to hold a decent premium over regular 996.1s and maybe non-C4S .2s.

POST 40Original post

A solid $25k, had to go with the official BaT xx996 bid though. Oh, I was taught that bearings shouldnt sit on shelves long, never really believed it though.

POST 43Original post

Quotes source post: 15723324

I think your car just raised the 996 bar for a car with some mileage.

POST 44Original post

Quotes source post: 15707221

Really liked the result of your auction! When I guessed the price I missed the fact that yours has the LSD and looks amazing. Despite what a couple of commentators said I think that the wheels really helped too. Your car was super nice and deserved the money! Daryll

POST 45 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Very nice of you to say Daryll. Thank you.

POST 46Original post

Congrats on a solid sell price Bash Hat. I too have been looking at Caymans from 2009 and newer, and am considering selling my '99 C2 coupe with 78k miles that I have owned since 2006. You have sparked my interest.

POST 47 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Have you driven the Cayman? Once you drive one its hard not to love it. The 981 is a fantastic platform. You notice a big difference with the mid engine layout. The car is so balanced and feels like it pivots around its midpoint where as with the 996 you feel the pendulum effect in the rear. I was shocked at how good the 981 was.
