Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

I'd also be very aware of when PSM kicks in and try to adjust your driving to limit the system from activating.

Coverage and how to read this overview
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.
5 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

So, my first DE coming up this weekend at Lime Rock with Connecticut Valley PCA.
I will be using a set of hollow-spoke Turbo wheels with Pirelli Assimetrico's with some miles on them (bought the setup used).
So, Lime Rock on Sat. is supposed to Partly Cloudy, Hi of 54, low of 33, 20% chance of rain.
I don't know too much about my car yet, thus the question...
With these tires (295/225) on a 996 C4S on a cold track, what tire pressures would you guys use? or perhaps a better way of saying it...what target hot pressures should I be going for?
Sorry if the question is an old one, but I'm looking for answers specific to the anticipated conditions.
Congratulations on your C4S. I also jumped out of a 2003 e46 M3 and into the true ultimate driving machine. I find it interesting that you've chosen to keep your e36 M3 out of your collection.
I'd recommend starting on the maximum Porsche recommended tire pressures. This will help keep your tires from rolling too much on your wheels. Since this is your first DE in your C4S, I would concentrate on learning your car, improving your skills, and less on tire pressures. Your technique and skills will limit your speed much more than your tire pressures. I'd also be very aware of when PSM kicks in and try to adjust your driving to limit the system from activating. I just finished an autocross and I found that I could minimize PSM intrusion by driving more smoothly.
I know you race, but early apex makes a good point. Know your car first, then make changes based on a combination of C4S character and your particular driving technique.
The question becomes what is a good baseline to start with. The factory pressures are too high, everyone agrees. The ideal is different for every poster, however. Search the archives, and I guarrantee you will get more answers than you need. For a quickie recc, I use 32/38-40 cold.
A point I'd like to make on hot pressures. If you want hot pressures, realize that tire temperature dissipates very quickly the first several minutes, then tapers off to a slow cool down. If you want accurate hot pressures and temperatures, you have to come in from a hot lap, not a cool down lap. Take the temps and pressures immediately. Too much hassle for minimum gain unless you are racing, IMHO.
I strongly suggest you set your tire pressures to 40 lbs HOT. This means starting about 4-5 lbs lower than normal. Do about 3 laps and come into the pits and check the hot pressures. If you have over 40 bleed them down to 40. With rear pressures over 40 lbs the back end of your car will feel unstable. Almost all radial tires are designed to run at 40 lbs hot. occasionally manufacturers will spec higher pressures to avoid pinch flats on low profile tires. This is not an issue on a smooth race track (no pot holes). Hot pressures of 40 all around will get you in the ball park. If the car understeers, bleed off 2 lbs in front. If it oversteers bleed off 2 lbs in the back.
Regards,
Looking over your current vehicle list, it's now obvious to me that you probably have experience in front engined, rear wheel drive cars without stability control systems mucking up the picture. This said, Porsche's PSM while being helpful on the street may limit how hard you can push your car on the track. Your efforts may have to be directed at pushing the limits of your car while limiting the interference of the PSM system. I found it amusing and strange to have one wheel brake during my autocross last weekend. I guess it kept me from murdering some cones. I've got allot of thinking to do to try to keep PSM actions limited. This is much harder to figure out than in my previous bare bones Miata. Have fun on your DE!
