Sounds like I'll be fine if I just run a flush with water before I refill?
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Hey all, I'm new to the forum, I decided to make an account to ask about this.
I have a 2002 911 C2 6 spd I bought last year. Now that it's warm enough to be outside, I am doing some maintenance to get it back on the road and ready for summer, part of that is installing a LN low temperature thermostat. I also changed the oil, filter, installed magnetic drain plug, changed transmission fluid, installed 997 shifter.
I bought
Zerex G40 coolant from pelican parts
expecting to have the pink stuff in there, because what's left in the reservoir looks a little pink-ish.
Well, I cracked off thermostat housing yesterday, and green coolant came out. So I'm pretty sure this is the factory coolant and it's never been changed, and someone topped it off with some pink stuff, which is why that's what I seen in the reservoir.
I have a uView Airlift tool on the way, and will be borrowing a friend's compressor so I can drain and refill the system with new coolant.
Can anyone tell me if I will have gelling issues with the G40 and the porsche green stuff? I've found info and forum posts saying that the porsche pink and porsche green are compatible with each other, and that makes sense. So is it safe to assume that Zerex G-40 will be okay? I will be draining the system of its green coolant to replace it with fresh stuff, so I guess if it's a huge risk, I will either plan to flush the F out of it, or just return this stuff and get something that is compatible and won't cause issues.
I've searched this forum and others looking for answers, most of the coolant threads are pretty old, and have a lot of links to articles, but nothing conclusive. I was wondering if anyone has drawn any more solid conclusions.
Thanks.
You can drain all the 6 gal coolant out using these steps then refill with your favorolite coolant. Btw, the Porsche coolant is similarly priced.

+1 to above....
Just recently did my water pump and LN low temp tstat. I followed his ridiculously easy thread. Steps are stupid simple and you will 100% get every drop of coolant. I figured you would most by following his advice. But you will get 6 gallons out (make sure you are ready for it) and it will take every drop of 6 gallons with an air lift. I used the factory Porsche pink coolant. It was like $36 a gallon and you need 3 to make it a 50/50 mix. Seriously, his write up should be in the Porsche factory service manual.
Just a thought. If your going to be swapping the T-stat and coolant, why not do the water pump as maintenance item. They are common to fail and it would suck to lose $100 bucks worth of coolant if it fails.
Yeah, I saw that procedure, and figured I'd do the same, looks easy enough. My airlift tool showed up today. I may not get to it until next week, but I am borrowing a compressor from a friend.
I bought 3 gallons of Zerex G40 concentrate, so I have it on hand.
I got under there and the water pump has already been replaced, so no need.
Sounds like I'll be fine if I just run a flush with water before I refill?
Thanks guys!
