Read evidence and context
Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

Leading evidence: 'Use pilot sport n1's' (no explicit attributable resolution; this is a reported action or suggestion). Across 1 matching discussions, The most frequently discussed action is 'Check around dealer/tire shops/costco/tire rack' (1 discussions). For that action, 0 discussions report a resolution and 0 report an unsuccessful attempt. No action has an explicit, attributable resolution report under the current rules. So, do I change all four to something else, run mis-matched manufacturers, or ???

However, if replacing all four tires, I would agree with djantlive and buy the best tire available, regardless of cost.

Worse case, get a new set in rear and replace the whole set when the rears burn out.
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

So here is the question. The ??**&
streets of SF have put unrepairable nails in the rears. Running AVS Sports 285/30/18's which seem to be not available or at least in short supply and costly (quoted $331 per). So, do I change all four to something else, run mis-matched manufacturers, or ??? Let me know your thoughts
Is your car a C4? If so, I think a matching set is pretty much required. With a C2 and a reasonably prudent driving style I wouldn't think you'd have much of an issue mixing mfgs. although Porsche cautions against it.
How long is the wait for a new tire? Check around dealer/tire shops/costco/tire rack. Someone must have it.
Worse case, get a new set in rear and replace the whole set when the rears burn out. Just don't do any overly aggresive driving when you are on a mix set.
I highly doubt that most people unless they auto cross or track their cars can really notice much of a difference if you mix the rear and front tire brands. What I mean is that most people drives at best 7/10 and with the enormous grip todays tires have you won't notice any handling differences. You may notice ride and noise differences, but not a grip issue. With that said I probably would try to find the tires on line to match it, but if its not a big issue mixing is not detrimental to the car.
Thanks for the advice. It is a C2. Can get the new Yoko Advan's in that size which would put the AVS sports on the front. Wonder what the difference in compound and tread will do.
Get PS2 or SO3/SO2A. They are better than AVS. Yoko advan is not N spec tire. Don't shop for tires based on prices. Get the best tire available and damn the cost.
The new Advan Neova is probably stickier than the AVS Sport, so it would be safer to put them on the rear than a tire that doesn't grip as well as the AVS Sport. Probably just increase your understeer a bit.
However, if replacing all four tires, I would agree with djantlive and buy the best tire available, regardless of cost. I use Pilot Sport N1's on my '99.
I've got your solution, but you may not want to accept it. The answer is go to 285/35/18 of that tire. That size is available at TireRack for AVS Sport for $271.
Yes, it's a little taller, but within the reasonable limits. I have that size on my 03 Tip with no issues. And I only did it when I found other people doing it.
But here's the big thing: You won't imagine this, but the larger tire looks 10 times better in that wheel well than the 285/30. If you compare them side to side, you will think the 285/30's make the rear wheels/tires look too small for the car and unbalanced with the fronts.
Or for the price of the rear tires alone, you could do what I did and switch to Sumitomo HTR Z II and get 4 new tires ($99 fronts/ $168 rears)...
