Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.
Discussions that report a fix

0 original-poster resolution reports. Counts can overlap; they are not unique people or a success rate.
0 discussions have direct query context; 0 report a fix in that context. Other evidence may inherit the discussion’s subject.
Leading evidence: 'Replace sending unit, no further issues' (1 discussions report resolution; 0 report an unsuccessful attempt). Across 1 matching discussions, the most frequently mentioned possible cause is 'sending unit and you'll experience more problems' (1 discussions; 1 report identifying it and 0 suggest it). The most frequently discussed action is 'Replace sending unit, no further issues' (1 discussions). For that action, 1 discussions report a resolution and 0 report an unsuccessful attempt. The most frequently reported fix is 'Replace sending unit, no further issues', supported by resolution reports in 1 discussions. These are forum reports and suggestions, not a confirmed diagnosis.

Reported cause
Good luck to you but I'd still bet that the cause is a failing sending unit and you'll experience more problems with the gauge in the coming days.

Clean contacts, it will reduce events, but they won't go away.

Suggestion
You can clean the Sending unit contacts, but replace it, 60-75.00 depending on outlet.
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Driving about 7-8 minutes after startup, I notice htat the oil pressure gauge is at 0....PANIC... smack the dashboard....jumps to 4 whew...
Is this something that can be "fixed"?
I'd say if smacking the dashboard unit fixed his issue, his problem would exist in that general area, not at the sending unit which is in the back on a heavily vibrating engine.
Sending unit flakey, have had it, replaced it, U smacking dash was coincidental, with it coming back.
You can clean the Sending unit contacts, but replace it, 60-75.00 depending on outlet.
Look no further.
Hell of a coincidence then
It would help for OP to re-affirm the causality of his smack and the needle jumping back (was it instant etc), and if it is like he says I'd like to discourage the blatant dismissal of causal symptoms on the basis of 'coincicence'.
Just because many of you had another issue with your oil pressure sender, doesn't mean *all* oil pressure gauge issues are caused by that.
"Just because many of you had another issue with your oil pressure sender, doesn't mean *all* oil pressure gauge issues are caused by that."
your right, let him figure it out. Please respond back.
I smacked my Dash, nothing, I must have missed where to smack it exactly.
The Oil pressure gauge is part of Instrument bezel that has 3 high concentrated connections that don't tend to work loose, very secure. Do any other gauges or lights flicker?

Driving about 7-8 minutes after startup, I notice that the oil pressure gauge is at 0.
Huh, Did you notice the red warning screen? If it was O at startup it wouldn't have lasted 7-8 minutes without Oil pressure
Leave it alone and it will continue to happen more often.
Clean contacts, it will reduce events, but they won't go away.
If the sending unit failed, you can hit the dash with a sledge hammer and gauge will not more. I would look for the problem in the connector at the gauge cluster first and go from there.
Your right if the Sending unit fails, No amount of pounding will bring it back,
But flashing between O - 5 Bar , It's intermittent, a sending unit is a analog electro-mechanical pressure device.
Again, OP needs to Troubleshoot it and tell us what he finds. This should prove interesting.
Please let us know how many parts you break taking the Instrument bezel off, a Hazard Switch? , a Microphone bezel, One of the connector bails either White Blue or Green? , Or marks it makes in setting it on top of dash.
Haha, yes he should just replace the sender already because that's the easier job, doesn't matter to know what actually causes the problem first!
Like losing your keys in the dark alley but searching for them on the sidewalk because the light is better there
Very light taps, it jumped right up, ............then again...I think I should replace the Gauge, sender and all wiring between the two...anything else (wink)
I'd bet good money that it is a faulty oil pressure gauge sending unit and that it was pure coincidence that the needle jumped when you hit the dash. Observe the gauge on your next few drives and I bet you'll find this to be the case. There are DIY instructions (here and on Renntech?) for changing the sending unit if you are going to do it yourself. IIRC the recommendation is to use a crow's foot wrench to remove and replace the sending unit.
Good luck to you but I'd still bet that the cause is a failing sending unit and you'll experience more problems with the gauge in the coming days. I think one of the symptoms of a failing oil pressure sending unit is that the gauge drops to zero after the engine has been running a few minutes.
Then again, maybe you do, as NuttyProfessor suggested, have the Fonzie touch...
In this case the likelihood of a stuck needle or a spotty connection in the cluster is much higher than a failing sending unit. Next time the needs doesn't move and the dash it whacked but nothing happens THEN I would start looking into the sending unit.
