Read evidence and context
Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

Leading evidence: 'Install same way as yours' (no explicit attributable resolution; this is a reported action or suggestion). Across 1 matching discussions, The most frequently discussed action is 'Install same way as yours' (1 discussions). For that action, 0 discussions report a resolution and 0 report an unsuccessful attempt. No action has an explicit, attributable resolution report under the current rules. These are forum reports and suggestions, not a confirmed diagnosis.
Source reports, not a diagnosis or a success probability. Counts refer to discussions and can overlap.
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Has anyone ever seen this before? It is a picture in the water collection and it looks like felt is attached to the firewall and covering the clutch cable. Anyone ever see this before? I have a leak on the driver side and found it was coming in the clutch grommet. This was covering it.
Also after I removed the felt and pulled the grommet into the water collection area I noticed that the grommet was put in backwards.... I think. Is it backwards? I have not removed it yet but have ordered a new one that wont be in until next weekend. So big question is it backwards?
Red arrow is the left over felt from the patch. The green arrow shows the clutch cable hole in the firewall.
Not a recent purchase but I have had a new clutch put in and this is showing up now.... I have not seen it until now and this is just another reason to do all your own work.
As far as the grommet... good question. I dont know if it is the correct size or not but I ordered another just like it. It definitely was not put in correctly and it deformed the grommet for sure.
Real question is should the grommet go from the water collection area into the cab or the other way. I cant see how it goes from the cab into the water collection area but maybe.....
It looks to me like someone was covering up a leak/mistake for sure. What I believe is that the new clutch went in and new pipes were put in place but the installer "Maybe" put the grommet on the line backwards and didn't want to blead everything back off and get it right. When he tried to put it in from under the dash there is structure in place to stop it from seating correctly. That is why I think it was put in backwards and I have put so many of these in a Toyota it is crazy. We always put them in from the boot into the cab so the larger section of the grommet was in the boot and you are able to get a good seal. I ordered a service manual this week too so I guess I will find out for sure when it comes in if nobody here can tell me.
So I called the shop in my town and the shop is very reputable, but the owner I spoke with is the new owner and seems the previous owner only owned the shop for a few months when he went belly up without my knowledge. He also screwed a lot up as I can gather from the other customers. The good thing is the new owner said he would help all he could but I dont think I will trust anyone anymore.....
Problem for me is time. I travel and am only home on the weekend and to be honest I didn't want to spend all my weekends in the garage. Either way seems I will be in there for the next few weekends anyway.
This is a photo from my wife's 2000. No felt and it looks like the grommet is fitted the same way as yours. Note the opening on the grommet is over the line connector, not the line itself.
