My car has been with them for almost 2 weeks and yesterday I was told that my car is now encountering some engine compression loss (probably something is leaking after the change of the tappets).

Actually I would like to ask you guys (i) is it reasonable to take 2 weeks to change the tappets?

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Guys, I have been encountering some small backfiring issue with my 996tt (2002 tip) and the chief mechanic of the authorised dealer said it was the sticky hydraulic tappets which caused the backfiring. Accordingly, I have taken my car to them to have the tappets changed. My car has been with them for almost 2 weeks and yesterday I was told that my car is now encountering some engine compression loss (probably something is leaking after the change of the tappets). I mean how could this happen? Is this poor workmanship or not? Actually I would like to ask you guys (i) is it reasonable to take 2 weeks to change the tappets? (ii) what can cause the engine compression leak in this situation? Thanks in advance.

POST 2Original post

2 wk is long but most of the time could be due to waiting for parts. If parts was already avail, engine removal and disassembly/reassembly should only take a week at most. What caused the sticking tappets? Was a compression checked before changing tappets? Dealer should be able to figure out cause of compression loss.

POST 3 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I surely hope so. Do you think a compression loss under these circumstances is serious or minor?
