My guess is that it uses a connector that is supposed to separate with enough force, but I'm pretty sure that something is going to break before the connectors release.

I'm trying to solve a squeak in my cabin that sounds like it is coming from the sunshade mechanism in the targa roof. Unfortunately I haven't figured out how to remove the interior trim piece that covers the sunshade. The plastic panel is on the bottom of the removable roof. It feels like it just held on by clips but I'm afraid to pull too hard since it might break. I don't have service manuals to find out what the trick is and I couldn't find anything by searching. Any ideas? Thanks, Kevin

Sigh. I tried again tonight but I'm afraid of breaking the trim. The service manual just states "pull cover in direction of arrow". No dice. My guess is that it uses a connector that is supposed to separate with enough force, but I'm pretty sure that something is going to break before the connectors release. I'm going to try with some trim tools tomorrow but I'm not holding my breath.

I was. It is held on by 6 clips. I had actually posted a picture of the trim panel (after it was removed) on another thread called 996 Targa Sunshade Install That thread has some detailed instructions on removing that trim and replacing the sun blind.
