Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

At 70.000 miles I also replaced the engine mounts.

When I replaced my motor mounts with Rein one side came out very easily.

I put the car on ramps to check underneath and found some plastic or rubber melted to the exhaust.

Aside from that, the hardest part was disconnecting the MAF connector.

For example I brought in the 968 because the ABS light wouldn't go out, and they said they couldn't find the problem and therefore recommended (pure guesswork) to replace the master cylinder which has nothing to do with the ABS and I didn't get the work done -- in the end it was a broken relay.

After picking up cars from highly regarded Indy Porsche shops I've found tools left inside my car under the hood, fuse box cover laying loose beside the fuse panel, missing parts they forgot to "replace", incredibly unbelievable diagnosis, and other mistakes.

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

MY 2000 C2 Cab Tiptronic, 68000 miles. I figured that even though the miles are relatively low, the car is 18 years old, so why not change out the motor mounts.
I used this video, which I loved because just about everything goes wrong for this guy. Very similar to my attempts at DIY's - need more tools, parts, things don't go according to plan.

I used the Rein OEM replacement kit, which comes with the nuts. I didn't have any problems removing mine and could have reused them, but it was nice having them on hand just in case. I did have the same problem where once I removed the right side mount, the engine dropped a bit and I had to use a second jack to move the carrier up in order to be able to thread the nut onto the new mounts. Aside from that, the hardest part was disconnecting the MAF connector. That sucker always gives me trouble.
In the photo, the old mount is on the left and definitely shows some wear. I wasn't aware of any issues and I don't think it made a significant difference, but it was time.
Funny how some DIY don't end up being so easy. When I replaced my motor mounts with Rein one side came out very easily. the passenger side MM was rusted and took some time to replace unlike the driver's side. I guess it's the luck of the draw.
Did you also replace the tip-transmission mount. These mounts in the Tiptronic cars is known to wear out also. And it is the 3rd place where engine/gearbox is held besides the two engine mounts. Also wear on the transmission mount increases considering the extra play the whole drivetrain got because of the worn engine mounts.
At 70.000 miles I also replaced the engine mounts. 2-3000 miles later I had to replace the transmission mount. It looked like this:
The transmission mount is the same for 996.1,996.2 and 997.1 Tiptronic cars.
The replacement part has an 997 part number and most probably was improved over the years.
There exist a set of motorsport bushings which can be press fitted in the mount as an upgrade.
The mount and bushing for the manual transmission is completely different. The bushing of the manual is in the nose of the gerabox itself while the bushings for the tip are in the mount itself (see the ripped rubbers on the photo).
The function first link is for the manual transmission.
FVD sells them for the tiptronic mount

I have a spare set brand new ones which I bought but at the end never installed. PM me if you are interested.
Follow-up:
I took the car out to run some errands. I had the top down and while stopped at a light I detected a slight smell of melting plastic, At first I couldn't tell if if was coming from my car or the environment, After a while I was pretty sure it was coming from my car. I opened the engine compartment when I got home and confirmed that the smell was coming from there.
Today I removed the airbox and the air pump to see if anything looked out of the ordinary. Everything looked fine.
I put the car on ramps to check underneath and found some plastic or rubber melted to the exhaust. I couldn't see what it was in the dark garage, but it looked like it could be some kind of electrical connector. I went to get my trusty little flashlight from the house only to discover that it was missing.
Using the light from my iPhone, I found that the melted "connector" was my missing flashlight. Doh!
Please don't think this happens only with a DIY. After picking up cars from highly regarded Indy Porsche shops I've found tools left inside my car under the hood, fuse box cover laying loose beside the fuse panel, missing parts they forgot to "replace", incredibly unbelievable diagnosis, and other mistakes.
