Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

0 original-poster resolution reports. Counts can overlap; they are not unique people or a success rate.

0 discussions have direct query context; 0 report a fix in that context. Other evidence may inherit the discussion’s subject.

Suggestion

Is the crest smooth, that would indicate a previous owner changing the crest for a later 997 on wards style crest.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

10 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I've got a 1999 996 that I just purchased. I was buffing the hood and removed the front crest. I found the expected depression from the crest, however I also found 06 embossed into the paint. What is the 06 indicative of?

POST 2Original post

Not much, quite possibly year of manufacture. Is the crest smooth, that would indicate a previous owner changing the crest for a later 997 on wards style crest. Although what made the indentation? Did it have the rubber gasket underneath it as the crest shouldn't make an indentation in the hood.

POST 3 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Had the rubber gasket. Nothing under the crest had the 06 on it. The only reason I ask is, if the number inicates anything I'll buff around it rather than going over it

POST 4Original post

I dont think it means anything, does your hood still have the original white sticker with your vin and options on it?

POST 5 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Yes sir, All original stickers are in place.

POST 6Original post

Think it might just be a production code, is the badge smooth or embossed? If its smooth its the new version, if its embossed/raised its the original

POST 7Original post

So this #06 was it on the under side of the crest or on the actual frunk lid itself?

POST 8Original post

My understanding is that it's stamped on the hood right? Pic would be worth a 1000 words!

POST 9Original post

Someone whispered this in my ear..."more than likely it could be the key lug number?"

^^ Correct #Number on the option sticker is the wheel lock set number, wondered what is was for a very long time. Rennlist gave me the answer as always... Although in this scenario I actually the OP might have had something under the crest itself as they removed it to polish the hood??
