Coverage and how to read this overview
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Own a 2000 996, Guards Red with < 33k original miles on it and original paint.
Just recently had all new tires, 90k mile service, new trunk struts, passenger window actuator, gas door lock actuator, new rear struts and some other minor repairs performed on the car by Hennessy Porsche in Alpharetta, GA. Final price tag was around $6k but was originally was over $7k >, told dealership to get the price down or I would take it elsewhere for the work.
When I bought the car from the 2nd owner in Scottsdale, AZ in 2014 (it had 30,086 original miles), I had Stuttgart Auto in Tempe due a PPI and they replaced the IMS, RMS, tensioners, clutch, clutch plate and performed a 30k mile service on the vehicle for about $2,800. The owner of Stuttgart has worked on Porsches and only Porsches for about 45 years now.
Considering the work performed between my local Porsche dealership (which BTW - Hennessy is an excellent dealership) and what Stuttgart performed, it would seem Stuttgart as an Indy shop was much more cost effective on the repairs and I have had no issues with their work since buying the car and having it shipped to me.
Any recommendations from local Atlanta Porsche owners on a reputable shop in the Atlanta area I can take my car to for future repairs (I can do basic maintenance myself) > meaning an Indy shop who has been in the business for years and only works on Porsche or German vehicles.
Thanks in advance!
I would trust any recommendation from Charles Navarro @ Flat Six Innovations since they are in Cleveland, Georgia. He is always helpful and responsive on this forum. Maybe give them a call.

wow, just wow. there are a TON of indies in the Atl area so there's really no reason to take a care to a dealer unless you're trying to build/maintain some kind of relationship.
I don't know what part of town you're in but Freed is in Alpharetta/Cumming, Goldcrest is in Kennesaw, Cali Auto is on the south side of Atl.
or reference, I just had Goldcrest do a complete sorting out of my SAI system, total came to just under $1k. I called a service adviser I know at Hennessy and he quoted me $2700 for the exact same job. goodluck in the future.
thanks for the references. I agree, I have found many Indy shops in the ATL area (I live in Alpharetta) and have heard of FREED, the main question is which are reputable. A lot of shops advertise working on Porsche but also Mercedes, Volkswagen, and non-German imports. I dont see how you can specialize on Porsches and those other manufacturer models as they are completely different engineering, electronics systems, etc. Im essence, I am looking for an Indy shop which specializes in Porsche, kind of like how Stuttgart Auto in Tempe, AZ did.
I am definitely not trying to build a relationship with Hennessy, although they are very customer centric. I would much rather spend what is considered reasonable when repairs beyond the time I have to work on them myself are warranted.
Thanks for the references - I will definitely check into a few of these includIng freed.
Ive worked on a bunch of cars, and in my opinion, there is nothing super special or magical about the Porsche from an engineering, mechanical or maintenance perspective, as compared to other German brands. The 996 is put together about the same as any Volkswagen or Audi. Most of the electronics are made by the same german firms (Bosch, et al.). Now if you are talking about more invasive work (engine internals), you probably want to get a single brand specialist. For the day to day stuff, there is no appreciable difference (in my opinion).
I live in Ca and purchased a 02 996 in Atlanta/Marietta and had CheckPoint .Auto in Marietta do a PPI replace the IMS bearing RMS and install a new clutch.
They predominantly do work on Porsche's and I was very please with the work. Speak with Beal or John
Charles isn't from FSI... Jake Raby is. Charles is LN Enegineering/Bilt Racing services. He is "partners" so to speak with Jake in that they've developed parts, tools and processes together for the M96 (and probably others) engine...
Ive had good luck with FREED. They absolutely went over and beyond with an SAI repair. Guys are always willing to talk through any issues and are fair on parts prices as well.
Also have used Superior Autohaus. Nice guys. They are knowledgeable. I would use them for basic maintenance but they also work on Audi lambo etc so for more complicated stuff would stick with FREED if you can make the drive up there.
totally forgot about these guys, and shame on me. they're great ppl that run a small unassuming shop as well.
freed specializes in porsches, goldcrest works on NOTHING but porsches in all the times i've been there.
