Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

For dual row installations, a spacer is used similar to how the Pelican kit is installed.

Suggestion
Most people are unaware of the RND Roller bearing as it's primarily sold to independent repair shops who install them for their customers and that it has been available now for about three years with a proven track record.
Leading evidence: 'Use similar' (no explicit attributable resolution; this is a reported action or suggestion). Across 1 matching discussions, The most frequently discussed action is 'Repair shops who install them' (1 discussions). For that action, 0 discussions report a resolution and 0 report an unsuccessful attempt. No action has an explicit, attributable resolution report under the current rules. These are forum reports and suggestions, not a confirmed diagnosis.

I guess more mk2 owners are replacing these, as only the early model is on sale.

When Jake and I were developing the IMS Retrofit originally, we tested a roller bearing version, however based on the fact that Porsche chose a ball bearing we figured it would be less friction in the Porsche community with a ball bearing Retrofit rather than a roller bearing version.
These are separate views of the same evidence. Frequency alone does not establish a fix, and these counts must not be added together.

We attribute the demand for a roller bearing due to cost and also partially due to the perception that roller bearings are stronger, when in fact the NUP204E bearing has the same load rating as the dual row ceramic bearings we use for the IMS Retrofit.
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

If you are on the fence about replacing your stock IMS bearing, here is a little incentive. Great price. Too bad I just bought a kit last week at full price :-(

Ouch.
Southwest Airlines has a policy where if you book and the next day they have a sale, you can call and they'll credit you the difference. Maybe you can get a case of JG oil...
Wow! Not sure what to think/say about this!!?? I knew RND sold this product. Have heard and read so much about why cylindrical bearings were inferior to the current batch of ceramic ball bearings. However, I would guess they are acceptable or LNE would not be selling them.
A little bit of background here. When Jake and I were developing the IMS Retrofit originally, we tested a roller bearing version, however based on the fact that Porsche chose a ball bearing we figured it would be less friction in the Porsche community with a ball bearing Retrofit rather than a roller bearing version.
That said, the product was tabled for almost a decade until SSF Imported Auto Parts approached us wanting a quality roller bearing solution, since some shops preferred a roller bearing but were unhappy with what was already out there. As the kit uses already existing IMS Retrofit components for the center stud and flange, it was easy to kit up for SSF this product. The only difficulty is that the bearing we chose for the kit is only made by one manufacturer and is special order, meaning we have to order them 9 months to 1 year in advance and stock an equal quantity of the bearings to ensure they have adequate supply of these kits.
Most people are unaware of the RND Roller bearing as it's primarily sold to independent repair shops who install them for their customers and that it has been available now for about three years with a proven track record.
There are several reasons we chose this roller bearing for the RND kit:
First of all, it fits in the place of the 6204 single row bearing and still allows the bearing to be retained with a snap ring. No one liked the other kits not using any kind of retention for the bearing other than the .0002" interference the bearing has to the housing bore in the IMS. For dual row installations, a spacer is used similar to how the Pelican kit is installed.
Second, the quality of the bearing. We wanted the highest quality bearing available and chose an NUP204E bearing from Koyo. This has the same load capacity of larger roller bearings in a smaller package due to the "E" which means it has 20% more load capacity due to the increased number of rollers in the bearing. The other commercially available kits use URB (Romania) bearings or similar bearings.
Lastly, roller bearings typically only can handle up to 10% of their total load as thrust, and even then, only in one direction. The NUP204E bearing incorporates thrust control in both directions internally as engineered by Koyo. It's a proven design.
We attribute the demand for a roller bearing due to cost and also partially due to the perception that roller bearings are stronger, when in fact the NUP204E bearing has the same load rating as the dual row ceramic bearings we use for the IMS Retrofit.
