This is not a probability of success.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

4 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I contacted WaveTrac's tech support to see which LSD to purchase and the person who responded told me that my gearbox takes part number 40.309.160WK which corresponds to: G50: 911 1987-88, 930 5spd 1989>, 964, 993, 968 996: GT2, GT3, turbo 6MT rear 997: GT2, GT3, turbo 6MT rear This puzzles me because I have not been able to get a straight answer anywhere on whether or not the C4S and the 996TT share the same gearbox. I have heard it both ways. Do I have a G96/31 or a G96/50 or? My C4S is a 2003 that has been converted to RWD. If anyone could shed some light on this, I would appreciate it! -Ryan

POST 2Original post

Why not cross reference the part numbers on AutoAtlanta or the PET for the C4S and Turbo? My first thought would be given the turbo made much more power than a C4S then they would have a gearbox that matched each...

POST 3Original post

The g96/50 gear box fits the "mezger" style engines (Turbo, Gt3, GT2 ect) and only uses a 4 bolt pattern like all previous "mezger and air cooled engines. Same bolt pattern as the g50 , 915, 901 gear box. The G96/31 gear box fits the m96/97 natural asperated -non mezger engines and uses an 8? bolt pattern. While the g96/50 and the g96/31 share "some" of the same internal parts, they are very different. According to CMS the 40.309.160WK fits C4awd, Turbo, and all 02 up C2 (which will include your m96/31)......and must use G50 flanges or have your flanges cut down...........40.309.165WK fits 99-01 C2...
