Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

$16.5 dropped to $13.5, got on the phone with the seller and she says the car was at the shop having the oil reservoir changed (huh?)...I called the shop and they confirmed it was the oil cooler.

The owner (Skylar) also cleaned the radiators, cleaned the idle control valve, changed oil, replaced the battery cable...car runs great and very fair prices.
Leading evidence: 'oil cooler' (1 discussions report identifying this cause; no attributable repair resolution). Across 1 matching discussions, the most frequently mentioned possible cause is 'oil cooler' (1 discussions; 1 report identifying it and 0 suggest it). Also replaced clutch, double flywheel, pressure plate.
These are separate views of the same evidence. Frequency alone does not establish a fix, and these counts must not be added together.

I wanted to use the IMSB as a paperweight (it looks cool), but that had to be shipped back to LN - there's also a ton of paperwork they require in order to honor their warranty.

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

At 64k had all the above replaced on my 99 996 C2 (except SOS,no such thing) at Bav AutoGruppe in Gainesville. Also replaced clutch, double flywheel, pressure plate.
The owner (Skylar) also cleaned the radiators, cleaned the idle control valve, changed oil, replaced the battery cable...car runs great and very fair prices. Saved all the parts for me to see. I can recommend him to anyone in northern FL.
IMS and clutch were fine, btw.
Glad to hear you're happy with their work! It's nice to have positive testimonials from members for members...What exactly was the "very fair price" for all that work?
I provided the clutch, flywheel and pressure plate (I believe they were LUK or SACHS); I think I got them from Pelican (?) or Parts Geek (or combination thereof); the total was somewhere around $900.
Bav AutoGruppe's total bill came out to around $ 2,800, which included the LN IMSB, the Porsche AOS and a few other odds and ends (gaskets, seals, etc).
I thought was reasonable given all the work that was done on the vehicle, including oil change, inspecting oil filter, cleaning radiators, etc.
I wanted to use the IMSB as a paperweight (it looks cool), but that had to be shipped back to LN - there's also a ton of paperwork they require in order to honor their warranty.
Next up will be water pump, thermostat, cam position sensor (slow oil leak), perhaps alternator.......
Wow, that's a great price! My quote from a local shop to do the same work:
- Clutch $1,200
- Fly wheel - $1,350
- IMS - $1,500
- RMS - 1,400
TOTAL: $5,450 + tax
See if your Indy will work with you on the parts. As I stated, you can get the clutch, flywheel and pressure plate for less than $1,000. And all that stuff has to come out anyway to get at the IMS. I dont know about the RMS, but the part is relatively cheap.
IMO, these numbers are strange. To do any of this work, you must at least remove the transmission (far from trivial, but not crazy difficult). Having done that, the additional labor for each of these jobs isn't huge.
In particular, an additional $1400 for the RMS seems way out of line. It's about a $40 part and - at a stretch - an hour's work (if you include the time to drink the beer you've earned when the job is done).
Looks like it was priced out as 3 separate jobs, instead of 1 job with all procedures done at the same time. When requesting quotes like this, you must be clear you want them all done at the same time...
He's raping you! I always do my homework then get at least 2-3 quotes unless it's an emergency and need it done asap.
Do as much as you can yourself if possible. I'd never have someone change my wiper blades that's for sure!
Yea, the wiper blades were stupid to pay for, but I was already $2,000 into a lot of little repairs and said WTF.
I need some some other recommendations of shops here in Indianapolis
That
does
seem odd. The shop that did the IMS in my car in 2015 charged $25.10 for the RMS part and $0.00 in labor since the transmission was already out. They also knocked $316.50 off the cost of the AOS replacement for the same reason.
Hmmm... Not "strange" at all... It's called a "ripoff" ! Most people that bring their cars to shops don't understand the mechanical procedures, or where certain parts are located. They just assume that the mechanic is quoting them a proper time estimate. Once they understand that all the parts in the quoted job are in the same area and that all the labor to remove the engine and transmission is included 3 or 4 times they feel the sting. Unfortunately it's often too late when they learn the truth. ** Not all mechanics are unethical but it's much more common than it should be...
^^YUP!
I was about to fly out and buy a car (this weekend) that had sat on the market for months. $16.5 dropped to $13.5, got on the phone with the seller and she says the car was at the shop having the oil reservoir changed (huh?)...I called the shop and they confirmed it was the oil cooler. Owner tells me it cost her $2000.00 and the mechanic told her it was underpriced. So now they're asking $17.5, WTF! Greed is real....
