I had more compliments on these than any other wheel I've run, even the similar, real 2 piece BBS made for Porsche sport designs.
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

So it is time for new tires and I noticed that used 18 inch factory wheels are getting cheaper. I love the way my car drives now. I have the non sport suspension on 17's and the car drives great on the highway and around town. Has anyone gone from 17's to 18's? How much stiffer will the ride get?
Thank you!!
My car has never had 17s and it rides, handles great everywhere. I put 18s on my 968 with several ill effects, but the 996 I believe was made for 18s. In fact, you can go really big on a narrow body 996 with no bad effects at all that I've noticed. I have had a lot of different wheels, and now have GT3 wheels with Pilot Sports, and it drives better than ever, but I doubt it has anything to do with the wheels. The Pilot Sports really are worth the extra money. Just my .02
I don't subscribe to the theory that one always needs larger diameter wheels. Something I rarely see mentioned around here is the weight of the wheels--there can be a huge difference between different sizes and brands that can add lots of unsprung weight to the worse place on your car.
Agree. Some of the Aftermarket wheels are really heavy and that will have an effect . I went from 17s on my 02 to 18 inch OEM 5 spoke. I did not notice a stifness in the ride but the fronts on the 18s were wider and that dialed out a lot of understeer and made the car feel much better. I think 18s are fine for a 996, going larger maybe more of an issuie.
I originally had 17's and a normal stock suspension. It drove great - comfortable and quite.
I eventually decided to make the jump - mostly for aesthetic reasons - to ROW M030 and 18's. When I first drove with the new combination, I couldn't believe it - and wished I had done it much earlier. It was smooth and tight, and certainly not uncomfortable or harsh.
I was worried before I did it because I was thinking it was going to become suddenly uncomfortable for around-town daily driving, but that wasn't the case at all. My car drives great, no matter how bumpy or rough the road is - plus it looks much better, and handles waaaay better than before.
It all depends on what you get. These after market, cheap Voxx's weighed only 23 lbs on the rear, but they are 18 x 9, really more suited to a Boxster. I had more compliments on these than any other wheel I've run, even the similar, real 2 piece BBS made for Porsche sport designs.
I had 18's on my boxster.. which I loved.. till i needed to get new "R" comps.. then I hated the price delta between 17s and 18s. Just something to consider.
From what Ive (I have the source but have to look for it if you want it) read, the experts concluded that the optional (at the time) 18" drove better than the 17" on dry roads...
