Because she had an automotive tracking device installed that I was having her and others test for me, I looked at her car.
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Hi All,
A friend at work recently had to have his 2000 (maybe 1999) 996 cab jumped after finiding it dead in the airport long term parking lot. Cold climate.
He indicated the car started but he now reports the radio and tach are dead (plus CEL illuminated). I should be able to fix his radio for him and I'll investigate the CEL... but I have not been able to find any info on possilbe reasons for the dead tach... Any thoughts?
He says that the tach gauge needle as well as the digitial diplay are both dead.
Thanks for any tips or help.
With Kind Regards,
Joe.
Oh, from the title I thought somebody was doing the Dukes of Hazzard thing.
Not sure on the problem, but if both are out it could be as simple as a fuse?
Good luck.
jump started car and I think hooked up the cables backwards for a brief time.
Afterwards, car jump started just fine but the tach no longer worked. Because she had an automotive tracking device installed that I was having her and others test for me, I looked at her car. The tach needle was caught under the pin at 0 rpms.
I was not sure how to fix it other than gaining access to the tach gage and checking it for damage from the botched jump start attempt and since it was not something arising from the tracking device installed I suggested she consult with a speedo/instrument shop to see if someone there could help her.
She talked to her husband and came back to me a day or so later and told me he drilled a tiny hole in the tach plastic cover and used a fine thin wire through the hole to lift the tach needle up and over the pin. Problem (?) solved.
Sincerely,
Macster.
