Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

6 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

1 acknowledgements have no verified action link; they do not establish a repair result.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I took my 03 in to have the window regulator replaced and after picking the car up, the airbag fault light is on. I asked my mechanic to try to reset it with the computer but it didn't work. He said it might just go off in a couple of weeks on its own (?). If not, I'll need to go to the dealer. He assured me that he hooked everything up properly in the door (I imagine that the fault is from the door airbag). First, is the "it'll go away on its own" a bunch of baloney? Second, any other tricks besides going to the dealer? The nearest one is an hour away. thanks, Grant

POST 2Original post

After replacing the new window regulator, I am pretty sure he forgot to plug back in the airbag wire harness before turning-on the ignition to test out the window up/down. The DME saw an open circuit from your side airbag and triggered this CEL. My understanding is that you need a special tool to reset Airbag CEL's. Unfortunately the dealer might be your only solution, I am not sure with Porsche though. My bad experience was with my Bimmer. I hope there is an easier way for you to reset it though. Good-luck.

POST 3Original post

durametric can reset it.. it wont go away on its own

POST 5Original post

when working with airbags or seatbelts.... you take the - terminal off the battery so that the ecu doesnt detect an open circuit, if they cant reset it, that means the circuit is still open. BS on it will turn off on its own... once that light turns on, it will latch on forever even if the the circuit has been closed. Durametric can reset the alarm light.

POST 6 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Thanks guys. I'll talk to my indy about getting a Durametric setup. Anyone have one near Iowa City? I appreciate the help. Grant
