Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

2 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

0 acknowledgements have no verified action link; they do not establish a repair result.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

so i was putting something in my "boot" when i noticed a cut wire by the drivers side strut. i've attached a couple of photos of it. anyone have any idea what the wire leads to? what was it cut from? the wire comes from here on the "wall" between the boot and the passenger compartment, driver's side. it's the black wire that is most lit in the center.

POST 2Original post

Halim, I rebuilt my current 996 after a dash fire. I replaced all the wires in the area you are indicating. That is not a stock part of the Porsche wiring harness. There are no solitary black wires that run seperate from the harness in that area. It looks like they drilled through the boot that insulates the harness as it passes through the firewall. I would be sure and cover the end of it with electric tape and trace the other end to where it ends up. You will probably find it goes to the back of the fuse block in the driver's footwell area. I wouldn't worry too much about it. Just make sure the exposed end is insulated. I would guess aftermarket stereo/amp or alarm system. Check my Burnt 996 rebuild post for detailed pictures of the area.
