Suggestion
When a Porsche nut has to look TWICE to make sure a car's the new model, the changes really are subtle.

I have enjoyed (test) driving the 997, but not much more than my 996.
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Now that the 997 has been out for a few months... the initial interest in the new look did intrigue me at first.. but am I the only one that prefers the look of the 996 more than the 997 now that the initial fanfare has come and gone...
i don't know, it just seems as if the 997 looks "too refined" on the outside... it kind of blends in with many similar cars out there on the road.. not that, that's a bad thing... a matter of taste i suppose...
i just honestly don't think it's worth it to trade in a fully warranted 02+ right now TT/C4S or even C2 otherwise for a 997 in any variant.. of course this has been brought up before... but just curious as to what people feel about these cars, now that time has come as gone from the first initial release...
it's kind of like the z4... at first it really impressed me... and now it's kinda like... blah.. and the 6 series.. and the.. actually most bmws... (i own a bmw 7, so i'm not bashing them..) kind of trying to relate it to the 997.. (although the 997 interior of course is much better hands down)
any opinions? personally i think the 997 can't even compete with the widebody 996 with the twin turbo front end.. even with the body kits i've seen for it... the circle headlights.. just kinda.. don't do it for me... seem kinda boring...
any other opinions, now that the car has been out for a few months, with the initial excitement woren off... and a few are seen on the road..
for me, the excitement of seeing a 997, just isn't there when i see one driving.. it's kind of like.. well, it's a porsche.. but when i see a nice twin turbo or c4s... instantly all eyes on... i like those scrambled egg headlights
I think that the 997 has some great qualities, PASM, a fantastic interior and sound system (thanks to Lewis), and a more "traditional 911" exterior.
HOWEVER, money is an object, and there is no way I could justify selling my C4 Cab in order to pay almost twice as much for those improvements. Talk to me in a couple years, and maybe I could justify it.
Besides, until the other body styles and all models (C4, GT3, cabs, aero kits, turbos, etc) come out, it just doesn't seem as enticing.
I have enjoyed (test) driving the 997, but not much more than my 996.
I really like the exterior of the 997, though I don't find it to be dramatically different from the 996--other than new headlights. When a Porsche nut has to look TWICE to make sure a car's the new model, the changes really are subtle.
As for the Z4 and the "Bangled" BMWs...that's another story. Z4 sales are down some 75% from last year, a decline almost certainly due to the bizarre styling changes. I like BMWs, but the new models have been hit with an ugly stick.
Kudos to Porsche for leaving well enough alone.
Interior is the only reason I would change. Very nice and better for taking clients to lucnh and entertaining them.
I am sceptical about buying a first year car though.
I'm waiting for the TT to come out, that's the only 997 I would dump my C4S for at this time. If money was not a factor, I would pull the trigger on a '05 Turbo S, new of course, there are a few still out there.
I myself like the exterior of 02 and newer 996, specially GT3 or aero kits that resembles GT3 or GT2. Honestly, I like the headlights of the 996 than the 997. I also don't like the rear of the 997 where the outboard of the bumper top edges cuts above the tail lights, looks like audi tt. I like the 996's where it's level with the bottom edge of the tail lights. The interior though of the 997 is way ahead in quality than the plastics of the 996.
I don't like the new 997 as much as i thought i would. However, I do like the looks of the new boxster. The headlights on the 997 remind me of the mini cooper and not the 993.
