Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Hi all, I am having a friend ship a set of wheels with tires to me. What is the best/cheapest method of boxing and shipping. They will be going about 500 miles. Can you fit 2 in a box?? or one box each?? Where can you get boxes to fit?? How do you pack to ensure the shipping monkeys dont scratch or damage?? I am in no hurry so guess ups or fedex ground is the cheapest?? How much does a 17" wheel with a tire weigh?? Ive noticed on ebay most wheel/tire set shipping charges are about $25/35 per wheel. Any advice would be appreciated!!!!!!!!

POST 2Original post

If tires are mounted, the best way is to stuff packing around the wheel, then cut out round carboard and place it on front and back of each wheel. Tape it up good and then buy some plastic shrink wrap and put all around each wheel separately. UPS ground is around 100 bucks total for all 4 separately wrapped, unless you are going across country east to west or vice versa. The tires make really good packing material and keep wheel from being damaged. Just put soft packing between wheels and cardboard so you don't get any light scratches from the packing material. Newspaper works, but I have had good luck with bubble wrap.

The way that Tire Rack ships tires mounted on wheels is to just put round cardboard around each side of each tire, and then they strap the cardboard on with plastic strap. They ship each tire/wheel separately. Since you don't have a strapping machine, you can just tape the cardboard by taping around from one side to the other and then over again (like spokes of a wheel). I did that to ship back a set to them. You then tape the shipping label to the cardboard. The cost of ground shipping should be no more than $12 per tire/wheel going half-way across the country.

POST 4Original post

i tried to ship it the tirerack way with UPS and FedEx but they both balked - saying that they would probably ruin the tire. so i was forced to ship them in a box, 2 per box. ended up costing around $200 to go from Atlanta to LA. I probably got taken advantage of but atleast you now know the upper limit ps - these were brand new 17" Boxster S II wheels/tires

POST 5Original post

Cardboard circles on each side, packing tape them on across the tires and Fedex ground is usaually cheapest and quickest.
