Suggestion
If they are polished, most likely they have a clear coat on them so you would clean them the same way you clean your car's paint.

I have even been able to keep mine clean on the inside by using a couple of different soft brushes.

Can anybody with the 40th ann wheels chime in and let us know how difficult it is to clean these wheels?
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Can anybody with the 40th ann wheels chime in and let us know how difficult it is to clean these wheels? is polished aluminum a tough finishe to keep clean and is it durable?
thinking of gettnig a set but concerned about that polished aluminum finish...
My brother-in-law has the 40th - just use soap and water frequently - any finish will go bad if the brake dust is left on too long.
I think that the wheels have some chromatic paint though?? are they actually polished?? I think they are described as a "polished look" In examining my brother-in-laws close up I could have sworn it was a chromatic paint.
whatever it is they look hot... don't know if you can paint the regular 5-spokes this color with any durability... why did you sell your 5-spokes? did you replace with new rims... post some pics...
They clean up easily, so they must have a clearcoat. I have even been able to keep mine clean on the inside by using a couple of different soft brushes. They do get dusty quick, and I clean them more often than I wash the car unless it rains, which it has done a lot of this year. I think they do have chromatic paint or something, they are glossier than could be accomplished by polishing I'm pretty sure, but they aren't chrome plated where they would chip. I put a 1.5 inch mark on one of my rears and bought a replacement, I thought. Turns out it was a chrome plated wheel. I took it out of the box in my basement and didn't realize it until I took it outside in the sun much later. Pretty obvious, and too late to return it.
Champions wheels were your best choice for performance, weight and unsprung weight... I hear they are much lighter than the 18" five-spokes... by a few pounds!
They are polished, not chromed. Clean easliy with soap and H2O. I wax mine with cheap Raindance. Easier to clean than my other wheels. They are very light and my favorite after the 1970 Mahle magnesium wheels for the 914/6 which are even lighter.
But replacements are $$$. Blew a hole in a rear wheel= $1200. Luckily was covered under tire/wheel insurance policy.
They are painted to have a polish look. Easy to clean and light. Local dealer sells them around $3300 for a new set w new rosso tires. You can get them for $2500 w tires on eBay. I actually like the regular silver more.
I must disagree - I looked again at my brother-in-laws wheels very closely last night and they are painted to look polished????? Is it possible that on later production 40th's they painted them with the chromatic paint (which would be easier than polishing) and on earlier ones perhaps they polished them. I tell you, his are definitely painted with a chromatic paint and his 40th was bought straight from Pfaff Porsche brand new. Hmmmmm. Not like this is a big deal or anything, but I must says these ones are painted without a doubt.
As a matter of fact - the car was discounted LARGE - 28% off MSRP to be exact. The discount was given because up here in Toronto the 40th's were anchors - no one wanted them for some reason - the dealerships couldn't move them and Porsche gave a large rebate, coupled with a big dealership discount and they finally started to move them. I think there is a decent market for them in "preowned" from what I see. Anyone who paid MSRP less the standard 3%-6% up here was raked over the coals.
Personally I love the car - we got big bang for little bucks !! can't complain about that. With the PSS9's we put on, it no longer looks like a 4x4, it really came together nicely.
And.....to get back on topic....it might be the clearcoat that is making it appear painted and you may be right about the polish.
