Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

4 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

0 evidence records excluded for query context · 0 excluded by outcome qualification · 0 adjusted by outcome qualification.

1 acknowledgements have no verified action link; they do not establish a repair result.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

My 02 C4S with 39k miles has had a stiff clutch with a rough engagement as well as a high frequency vibration that I felt through the clutch pedal and steering wheel. I have only had the car for couple of months but was sure it wasn't supposed to feel like this! Took it to the local dealer since it has a bit of CPO coverage. I get the call back and dealer says I've got Good News and Bad News! I immediately sit down and expect the worse .... He says that the flywheel has some separation/flex and it will be replaced under warranty as well as the labor. The bad news, I need a new clutch as well and I'll have to pay for the parts. Wooohooh!!! I was expecting a lot worse. So for the price of clutch kit I now have a smooth shifting, lightweight clutch pedal with no vibration. Still surprised with only 39k miles it needed a clutch and flywheel. I guess clutch wear is all about how the previous owned operated the clutch. The flywheel on the otherhand... are the dual mass known for failures or is that indicative of how the owner drove as well. I'm almost 100% sure this car had never seen any track duty. Keith

Sounds as though you did very well with a dealer fix, congrats.

POST 3Original post

With both the clutch and flywheel having to be replaced already one would have to assume the car was abused. Maybe red light drag racing?
