Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Amigo's My Brother just picked up his 04 Audi S4 and now the Crap Talk begins, He sent me some links from Audi World regarding the S4 speed - Should I be concerned ? Before I place my wallet where his mouth is, I wanted to make sure the 996 is the clear winner of Roll Ons - and handling - After driving the S4, I fell it is not as quick as the Targa, but that could be misleading due to the quietness of the cabin and AWD. Don't get me wrong, I am not one of those Boy Racers, but I enjoy busting my brothers ***** every chance I get. Awaiting your input.... P.S. The S4 is really a nice car, both driving and looks.

POST 2Original post

see for yourself. http://www.track-challenge.com/main_e.asp 0-62 mph: Targa: 4.8sec, S4: 5.6sec 0-200kph-0: Targa: 22.5sec, s4: 26.4 slalom: Targa: 128/139kph, S4: 121/130kph The S4 is a great car for what it is, but it is not a Porsche.

POST 3Original post

I've stomped a few S4s they can't keep up w/ a 996, they are great cars though. My problem is my brother has 996 TT and a Diablo.

POST 4Original post

have had a s4 04 modell, its an ok car, but its not a sportscar, its a lovely familycar joachim 996tt

POST 5Original post

Yeah my friend has an S4... fast off the line - but not as fast. It looses ground in the higher rpm speed range. If my c4s can get over 110 - i'm seeing him in my rear view... oh yeah and if you're on a track the S4 will limit at 150... ha!!

POST 6Original post

The S4 is better than the 911 in only two categories: practicality and price. The S4 is a very practical, fast car that can comfortably seat four adults and carry a set of golf clubs in the trunk. You can also buy one for under $50K with a discount that most dealers are presently offering. I was tempted to buy one, but I just can't stand the fin on the S4's roof.

POST 7Original post

May even have a couple lengths on your targa at the end of 1st, purely on awd traction. By the end of 2nd you'd make up that 2 and by the end of 3rd you'd probably be up by a couple. Over 100 mph, the S4 is history. In the handling department, the S4 would be slaughtered! I know, I have a highly modified previous generation S4 and I compare it to my C2 on a daily basis....and there is NO comparison.

POST 8Original post

he would only beat you to the service department. And on the return trip, you'd beat him as you'd have your car out of there first.

POST 9 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Thanks Amigo's = Well you were all correct - yesterday we danced and the Targa came out victorious - We tried various test, from roll ons to 0-90 sprints - I took him each and every time - I very much like the S4, the recaro seats and engine response are great - I never been a sedan can of guy, but if I were to be, the S4 would be my choice.. Thanks again for your input..

POST 10Original post

As far as cool factor no way. I had an S4 and was not to enthusiastic about it. It was chipped and modded to some extent, but car just did not have the aura of or presence of a Porsche. No way near as fun to drive either. An Audi is, well, a poor mans BMW (in some instances), or a sensible approach to driving a German machine. A Porsche is the real deal. I questioned in the back of mind if a new Porsche was worth the extra dough over an Audi. I had traded the S4 for a 225 hp TT right before I purchased my 02 996 C2 coupe. My initial impression was that Audis and 996s were in a completely different league and the 996 was worth every penny of the price difference as far as driving experience, the fun factor, and wow factor.

POST 11Original post

Interesting... of those who have driven the Audi S4... what do you think of the new Volvo S60R (6spd , 300HP with KKK turbocharger-stock) regards, Peter

POST 12Original post

I would not own a Volvo. I am just too picky about my cars and cannot immagine being satisfied by anything less than a Porsche. The new Astons look great as does a Bentley GT I recently got to drive.

Interesting... of those who have driven the Audi S4... what do you think of the new Volvo S60R (6spd , 300HP with KKK turbocharger-stock) If you are not into image, the Volvo or for that matter the G35 coupe are excellent choices. In both of these cars you get about 90% of the performance of a 911 C2 for less than 50% of the price. Now of course on the prestige scale, neither of these cars are going to impress anyone.

POST 15Original post

I have raced both the 2004 s4 and a 2003 996 c4. There is no comparision. The 996 will pull very hard on the audi passed 60 mph.

POST 16Original post

The S4 is pretty nice for a heavy, luxurious sedan. It will get killed by a 996 or, for that matter, by my 03 EVO. Now the EVO is serious bang for the buck and will run with my 996 up to about 120 mph.

POST 17Original post

My C4S would pull about evenly with Stage 2+ B5 S4s (the biturbo ones). But my friend had a 12 second Stage 3+ and that thing would destroy the C4S at any speed. I had to be one gear down from him to pull evenly on the highway! I miss the biturbo S4s...

POST 18Original post

Not really true in all respects. Maybe on paper the Porsche is only 10 percent better, but in actual driving feel it is a whole lot better than that to me. There is a G35 coupe here at the office and it is worlds apart even to its owner, except on paper. Just totally different driving experiences.

POST 19Original post

The real problem with the Audi Brand is that it's related and owned by VW, and that makes people think that this is not a nice car. But that's not really true, and Audi should try to brake apart from VW, since they copy everything from our fellows in Ingolstadt. Last time I had the oportunity to compare my S4 Stage three with my 996 and other friends, the S4 would easilly spank us in every gear. And please consider that it was a station wagon. Every time a drive the Porsche after driving the S4, I start to think, this car is slow... Need to do some up-grading. And the word EVO SC comes to my mind... We have even swaped drivers to see if it was a drivers 'issue'. But nope. And do not think the Porsches are slow, because even a Modena had dificulty to get me us. Anyway, Audi would serve for the guys that loves to drive, but can not justify having a Porsche for their wifes and family. But I have to tell you that there's no comparison... W.o.T Freak

POST 20Original post

It would easily walk on my 996. But, the 996 would easily out handle it. The pure driving experience belongs emphatically to the Porsche. I'm just lucky to have both.
