Also you can do a zip code search on the Porsche website for all SoCal dealers and check all of their inventories online - good place to start to narrow down what you want and who has it, and how much inventory is floating around.

Coverage and how to read this overview
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Novice question i'm sure but i was wondering...all the inventory of 2004 996s that are not sold ....what happens in sept/oct of this year?
when is a good time to hit the dealerships with a blank check and ask for the final best offer on the last of the 996s? especiially the c2 coupes when the 997 arrive from Germany?
so i guess that is two questions.
thx
They go into the discount bin
There are some great deals out there already on new 996's (look at the anniversary model). If you wait they may get better, but what cars will be left to choose from is another story.
What is the discount bin? Cars are not new or old so where do they go? and how are they labeled etc?
finally does porsche have special incentives to the dealers to move the stuff especially with the 997s coming in on teh c2 996s. who gets stuck with the inventory the dealers? or porsche?
Cars are always sold. They don't get shipped to some make-believe excess car playhouses. Dealers know approximately how many they will sell, despite their gimmicky "we've got too many cars on out lot and we have to make room for the new model year" BS. They may have a handful of extra cars on their hand at the end of the year, in which case they can just reduce the price by a few hundred dollars or even a couple thousand to make it worth it for somebody to buy. It's all simple supply and demand.

1. When discounts of $10K or more are given by the dealers, there's a good chance that Porsche is involved.
2. Dealers don't loan cars from Porsche, they buy them. So the dealers get stuck with the inventory. Porsche doesn't want their dealer network to lose money, so if lots of dealers are having problems, it's a good bet that Porsche will come to the rescue with some serious incentives.
The trickle down impact should be felt by all the c2 996s. if new cars are priced down so will the 03 / 02 / 01 preowned. but initially teh better deals could be new c2 coupes in a couple of months.
what is the guess for a new c2 2004 with modest options - when is the best time to buy (now or in couple of months) and where in the country is the best place to buy?
Sorry that was a joke
The cars get marked down until they move.
I suggested the anniversary model as it is supposed to be marked down up to $20,000 off sticker at the moment.
Buying a P-car in the Chicago/Wisconsin area is always a great deal right around early winter as the business there is usally slow on sports/exotic cars due to the weather and there are lots of dealers in the area.
For obvious reasons, inventory on hand at the end of a model year and when the next year's cars are in, will typically be sold with some healthy discounts, and with the 997 due out, it could be a little better this year. But it all depends on what is in stock. What are you looking for? If you want a coupe and if the rumors on this board are true (which may include a large PCNA subsidy), then the 40th could be a fantastic deal, basically a coupe price with a bunch of nice goodies thrown in for free. Having bought recently in SoCal, and watching this board, I think now is a real good time to start some serious shopping, but be cautious and hold out for a great deal (and make sure you know what you want before you start). Also you can do a zip code search on the Porsche website for all SoCal dealers and check all of their inventories online - good place to start to narrow down what you want and who has it, and how much inventory is floating around.

That's true. The only problem is will the car you really want be available at the end of the year, and if it isn't will the compromise you have to make be worth the few thousand in additional savings. If exterior and interior colors don't mean much to you, then you'll get a fantastic deal at the end of the year. Unfortunately for me the color of the car is important, and it always seems as though the cars with the fantastic discounts are the ones that I don't find appealing.
you can get a 40th anniversary 911 for invoice today.
most dealers are doing it.
save 20k off an X51 C2 basically.
probably the biggest steal in porsche's lineup today.
however, don't expect resale value to be good.
