Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I just had the PSE installed over a week ago w/ full electronics and had a track day Monday. since last night, the PSE started making funny noises, kinda like two pieces of metal flapping against each other. But only when engine is cold and low (2-3k) rpms. Has anybody else experienced this????? Thanks in advance for any input. Peter

POST 2Original post

When I had my PSE installed, I heard a similar noise as I was driving down the block, so I went back to the shop, and they forgot to tighten one of the exhaust tip bolts.

POST 3 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Thanks Pourscha: I'll try tightning all the bolts tonight, see if that'll fix the problem. Peter

POST 4Original post

Good to know! A week from today, my newly PSE'd C2 hits the track! I'll know where to look if I get any new noises!

POST 5Original post

It may not be related to your PSE at all. Thats exactly how it sounded when one of my cats went bad. A low rattle-like sound heard only at low idle, disappears with the slightest rev. Warrantee work.

POST 6 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I think Palting might be right. tighened all the bolts last night and the noise is still there. Drove by a mechanic this morning and he sz sounds like either bad muffler or bad cats. Gotta go back to the dealer. Maybe the track day was too much for the new mufflers to handle. Peter

POST 7Original post

I just did a track day with PSE and now the difference between quite and loud via the switch is very minor; it is almost like it is loud and slightly less loud. I wonder if the PSE is not up to the rigors of track driving ...

POST 8Original post

I guess I gave the wrong impression. My PSE and new cat have gone to at least a dozen DE's since thee PSE went in and the bad cat was replaced. Last time out was on the red group, using up three full tanks of gas each day. No problems with the exhaust system. PSE or any Porsche OEM exhaust system is more than adequate for aggressive DE. Peter and I just had one bad cat, that's all. To my ears, PSE is MUCH louder than stock. On the track with stock exhaust, I can't hear the engine well enough to blip and rev match. Had to use the "seat of the pants" and "ball of the foot" sensors". When PSE went in, it was so much easier to gauge the RPM's. I could actually HEAR the exhaust over the wind noise and squeeling tires. It also sounds just absolutely glorious down Thunder Alley at Mid-Ohio. During Autocross, nobody could tell whether I was downshifting, accelerating, or engine braking with stock exhaust. Now they can tell from across the whole track.

POST 9Original post

I have a very subtle rattle from one of the mufflers, only when hot at idle. I'll get it checked out next time at the shop, the 2 year warranty on porsche parts should cover it. I guess that's a good reason to stick with factory parts. If the PSE wasn't up to track work, they wouldn't use it at PDE.

POST 10Original post

Palting - Had a very similar motivation for switching to PSE...struggled to hear the downshift into Turn 3 at TWS....super way to rationalise the PSE upgrade. 3 DE's later still running strong.
