Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Just bought a 99 996 C4 Cab. When in traffic, the temp went up to the 3rd line, never over it. At night it was basically at 180, between the 8 and 0....My 97 Boxster was always right at 180. The dealer said oh, that's normal. So do 996's run hotter than Boxsters? The car has a 2 year warranty, and I will most definately be taking it in to get looked at, just thought I would ask....

POST 2Original post

I wouldn't worry too much for now...but check your radiators under the front bumper. Sometimes leaves and debris can get stuck up there. Also, turning on the A/C will start a radiator fan which helps the overall cooling effort.

POST 3Original post

My '99 had been doing the same thing. I had it thoroughly checked and no problems were found. The only thing that might be causing the increase is the guage or the thermometer, so we're just keeping an eye on it for now.

POST 4Original post

I had the same issue with my 99. It got pretty bad on hot days on the track. After I installed the 3'rd radiator however, it has never gone past the 0 in 180, even on the hottest track days. I should note, that I cleaned out the other radiators as I installed the 3'rd and I'm sure that help quite a bit.
