Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Hi guys, My sensor just came on for like a minute today and I want to change my pads, rotors, and sensors. Can you tell me the best place to buy the equipment? I have a friend who can do the work for me but I would like to get the best prices for the parts. If possible can you list the number, place, and price that you pruchased your pads, rotors, and sensors? Thanks so much! Car - 99 C2 and 99 C4 black and red Parkman

POST 2Original post

I got oem pads and sensors for my 2001 C2 from Evolution Motorsports. If your going to use sensors, you have to have oem pads because they have the hole drilled in the pad material where you insert the sensor. At DE's I'm switching out my pads and using Pagid Blue. I got these from Pelican Parts. Don't pay to have your pads replaced. You can change your pads in 5 minutes per wheel. I'm not kidding. It takes more time to take your wheel off and put it back on then changing your pads. I'm not going to put my sensors back in. I'll be changing my pads out often enough, I'll always know how much of the pad is left. I can tell the sensors would be a pain having to put them in and take out every couple of weeks. Good luck. Ken

POST 6Original post

http://www.bombaydigital.com/boxster/projects/brakes/ This is for a boxster. It's the same for your 996. A great website for brakes. There are step by step color pictures on how to change your pads as well as rotors and other valuable brake info. Here's the sequence. 1. pull out cotter pin. 2. press in retaining clip and at same time pull retaining pin out (away from you). I use a little nail punch to get retaining pin started before I compress the retaining clip. 3. pull out sensors from the pads and the little pressure connector from the notch in the pad bracket with needle nose pliers or tweezers. If your going to use them again just fold them back and out of the way. If your going to put in new ones, I would cut the wire in half. This will make it much easier to remove from sensor retaining clip. This will make sense once you do it. You need to follow the wire to a connector and pry up the connector clip and pull out the sensor connector. 4. you now need to compress pistons into the caliper. Pull off the drain nipple covers. I put a 2 foot drain tube on each nipple, open the nipple and compress the pads back with a pad spreader. You can also use your hands to compress them in, or a big pair of plyers. You will be bleeding some of your brake fluid out. This is good since you'll be getting rid of any dirty fluid or any bubbles. 2-4 inches of the tube will fill up with fluid, depending on how much you have to depress the pistons. Do not let any air back into the bleeder nipple. This shouldn't happen because your compressing the pistons, not pushing them out. My drain tube is long enough to stick straight up into the wheel well. This way, the only thing in the tube is the little bit of brake fluid that you squeezed out by compressing the pistons. 5. the pads will now flop free, pull them out and put in the new ones. If you can't get the new ones in, it's because you didn't compress the pistons enough. 6. after pads are in, tighten bleeder nipples, take off drain tubes. I now put the nipple covers back on. This lets me know I tightened the nipple tightening nut. 7. Hold the retaining clip on the new pads, push down and slide in the retaining pin. Remember to put a little anti seize on the retaining pin. You will have to position retaining pin with needle nose pliers so you can see the hole to put the cotter pin back in. You will need a flashlight or trouble light to see the hole. If your going to use the sensors now is the time to put them back in. Now that I understand the system, and i'm changing my pads out for DE's, I'm no longer going to use the sensors. I just need to figure out how to turn off the sensor idiot light. It really is easy. Once you do one wheel, this will all make sense. The only difficult part is if your going to put in new sensors. This will probably take as long as taking the pads out. If your not going to use sensors, you can just pull them out of the pads, cut the wire in half and remove the sensor connector from the retaining clip. Remember to refill your brake fluid after you start the car and push on the brake peddle. You should have to fill up you brake fluid reservior with approx. the same amount of fluid you drained out. Check you brake fluid level a couple of times. Remember, the new pads won't work well until they're broken in. Pagid has break in procedures on their web site. Good luck. Ken
