I ran through the rest of it and found that My Porsche has been running for 2156 hours, and that it was over rev'd one time about 1900 hours ago.

I need to check the connections for the seat memory to be sure everything is ok, then I can try to clear the codes.

I also wanted to reset the mirrors so that the left mirror dips when in reverse, I had this set at the dealer a few years ago but lost it when I did the seats.

Coverage and how to read this overview
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

This appears to be a program that allows you to use your laptop to do the functions of the PST2. If this allows you to do as much as a VAG-COM does for Audi and VWs, I am in. Anyone have any experience with this particular product?

That's very interesting. Thanks for posting. I think i'll pick one up and let you guys know how it is. You can never have too many tools at your disposal
Loren over at Renntech has been testing this for a while. Looks like it works as advertised so far. I think he's waiting for a couple more 'test' cars to finish his testing.
I bought one last week and just tried it today. I can tell you that it cleared my airbag light successfully, so it has almost paid for itself already (dealer wanted 1 hr at $149.00/hr. to clear it). It has the engine diagnostic (DME for motronic 5.2, 7.2 and 7.8), airbag, ABS Alarm, airconditioning and seat memory. It clears the airbag fault codes. It won't currently clear alarm codes. I am still experimenting with the others, but other than seat memory codes I came up clear. I think I left something unplugged on the seat memory when I added my heated seats. I know this is when I got the airbag code. I need to check the connections for the seat memory to be sure everything is ok, then I can try to clear the codes.
I also wanted to reset the mirrors so that the left mirror dips when in reverse, I had this set at the dealer a few years ago but lost it when I did the seats. Anyone in the Chicago area who wants to try it let me know.
Also the Seller, Durametric, says that as they add the additional features they will upgrade the software for all purchasers for free. Beats the heck out of the cost of a PST2
Unfortunately after checking with them, the two fucntions that I wanted to control wouldn't work.
(1). Deactivate passenger airbag with the deactivatoin bar
(2). Turn on the OBC function so I can get an outside temp readout.
I dont get it, besides clearing the airbag light what does it do? Can it change my settings for how my doors automatically lock when I turn on the ignition? I dont get it...
delirium, i doubt that it is any better than a really good OBDII scanner that can clear airbag lights. If they really are working on updated software for it, then you may see door lock programming in t he future. however, since it says it cannot change alarm settings, i doubt it (i'm assuming door locking would be part of alarm settings).
cheers
If you guys are interested I have a PST2 running on a laptop that I got from a shop that was closing. It has update 24 installed so it does everything for all models.
As to bleeding the brakes what model do you have? I know if you have 993 or 964 C4 you would need update no higher than version 19 as Porsche deleted the function from the PST2 in later updates to make room for the Carrera GT and Cayenne
I just ordered the Durametrics unit.
http://www.durametric.com/
I have a 1999 C4 and the "check engine" light came on for the first time.
It's extremely dusty here in spring - so my guess is air filter or O2 sensor type stuff - the car runs fine as far as I can tell.
I have no dealer locally - the closest is about 450Km away actually, so this Durametrics tool will be good to play with for the few Porsche owners in Saskatchewan. After reading their website, I wish I had this tool before purchasing my car because you can use this code reader to tell a little bit about the history of the Porsche. For example, you can tell if the car has been redlined in the last little while, and how many hours the car has been used, and the average speed as compared to the mileage.
My car is in great shape, but it would have been good insurance to have been able to jack into the cars computers before making the deal. If you are buying a used Porsche, I think this software would be very good to have. The price is appropriate and realistic - it's just reading memory off of a microprocessor - computers are good at that, and it's not worth $3000.00 for a genuine PST2 from Porsche I don't think.
If I worked at Porsche, you'd have a bluetooth module permanently installed in every Porsche (no hoses to connect) and any laptop could be loaded with free software that would link straight to your mechanic over the internet! The full history of the car could be tracked if the owner wanted it to be - not too hard to do that actually.
Anyways, I am very happy to have found out about this thing right here on the Rennlist! This forum has helped me a few times now - so keep posting the useful information for guys like me who want to learn more about care and feeding of Porsches.
I ordered the unit overnight - so maybe I'll have results by Friday and let you know how this thing works. I am better with computers than with auto repairs - can you tell? Thanks to Rennlist for this! Maybe I don't have to drive to Calgary or Edmonton for this check engine light after all - let's hope!
I bought one a couple of months ago and have used it to analyze engine faults and clear airbag and seatbelt faults. I recently got a update of the software ( they notify you when updates are available and they are free) which stated the following:
"New features include:
Cayenne
DME (Motronic 7.1)
Tiptronic
Airbag
Steering Column Switch
PSM
PCM2
Kessy
Instrument Cluster
Gateway
Electrical System
Air Conditioning
Wiper
Transfer case
Boxster / 996
Tiptronic
DME Actual Values
DME Vehicle Information
ABS 5.3 Actual Values
Airbag Actual Values
993
DME (Motronic 5.2)
General Feature
Logging
Here are some of the things we are working on:
ABS 5.3 Bleeding the brakes for ABD/PSM
Enabling OBC (On Board Computer)
The rest of the 993 modules"
So they are continuing to add features and improve the functionality. I thinks it is a great tool, with future potential, and it only cost a little bit more than a GOOD quality OBD.
I received my Durametric unit today.
I plugged it into my MacBook laptop running Bootcamp with Windows XP.
Plugged the other end into my 996 C4 - the plug is under the steering wheel on the left side - can't miss it.
I ran the program and found out that my "Check Engine Light" was due to:
DME 7.2 Selected
Fault codes for Motronic 7.2
Fault Number: P1130
Description: Factory Fault Code 361 - Oxygen sensing adaptation, idle range, bank 2
So that was a relief - no big deal.
I ran through the rest of it and found that My Porsche has been running for 2156 hours, and that it was over rev'd one time about 1900 hours ago. So that wasn't too bad!
My car has high mileage, but is in great shape 120,000 KM on the ODO. So you can figure out the average speed of the car through it's 2000 hours is something like 60Km/hr average speed - probably lots of commuter type hiway driving, unless my own 100 hours of driving has boosted the average speed that much!
I found that the ECU readings might not be all correct - temps are way out and other stuff like that - maybe due to the fact that I am running their software on a Macintosh beta "boot camp" software - I might try with a friend who has a PC laptop (which I would never want to have).
I found some other error codes for the alarm and air bag - but they are not triggering an idiot light on the dashboard. I'll check into those other errors some time - it's probably nothing much - but it'll get fixed if it needs anything.
I reset my "Check Engine" light - and that worked good!
Now I think I can probably drive to get my car checked out 450 Km away.
Was this tool worth it?
I like it - it's cool, and I was able to check what the "Check Engine" light means, so that's good for me out here with no Porsche dealer for miles.
Check over the data - I screen captured what I saw - except my original error code - which I forgot to capture before I erased it. You get a full text log every time you hook it up.
Documentation is sparse to none.
Anyone out there know what "Ignitions (Range 1)" are? I know range 2 are over - rev's, but there are no docs that I have found on what any of this stuff means.
Check the pictures and tell me if you see anything noteworthy.
I wish it could sync up my second key to the car - I guess the dealer has to do that operation for now. I also wish I could play with more functions, but I guess I am just happy to have cleared the check engine light!
Enjoy!
plant cool toy,
I wish I had a laptop, or a long extension cord, I would love to try that on the used Porsche I bought to see if it was over revved. I know the one I bought new has been babied
The inability to mate a key (immobilizer chip) to a car is not a hardware limitation. I have a good friend at an indy shop with a PST2. He can't do it, either. That is because such an action requires a car specific code that can only be obtained from PCNA. And PCNA will give that code only to a Porsche dealer.
I think there would be some fun things you could do with an onboard computer and a 3 axis MEMS accellerometer, gyros and a GPS.
When I go to the dealer I would like to see a new Porsche with a videoscreen on the dashboard and see what fun you could have with that.
Does anyone have a Porsche with some good on board computer gear and timer etc? I seem to remember that Porsche actually sells some "chronograph" option of some kind - I'll look into that one.
I have always enjoyed the trip computer on my old BMW 5 series - I really liked the ETA feature for highway trips etc. Too bad my porsche doesn't have a trip computer.
