Myself is more indicated towards the automatic, not sure why, i do acknowledge that the Manual box is faster, but just didn't feel that super much faster, also i am afraid of ruining the gearbox because on other cars i do drive them pretty hard and do extremly quick changes (it's the racing instincs) and it has happend that a gear doesn't get in correctly and i am not sure how much of that destroys the gearbox

These are separate views of the same evidence. Frequency alone does not establish a fix, and these counts must not be added together.

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

I know... one thread like this again, but anyways.
Been reading a lot of threads on this subject, but here is the lowdown.
Been testdriving 3 996 this week, 2 manuals and 1 automatic.
First ride was way uncoumfourtable, probably because he had to hard pressure in the tires, but the whole car felt unbalanced (manual), second ride was alright except that it ran out of petrol in the middle of the testdrive
third car which was today was an automatic, which was very nice, it was also a C4 which the others weren't.
So basically now i am having a bit of hard time selecting which one.
The 3 have basically specs like this (Based out of sweden)
46,665$ 6 Manual - C2 - 1999 - 29 204 Miles - Private sale, 3 owners
55,870$ 6 Manual - C2 - 2000 (01 version) - 34 175 Miles - Dealship - 2 Owners
49,201$ Automatic - C4 - 1999 - 49 088 - Dealership - 1 owner
So what you think? The 3d car is getting it's major check this week.
I am planning to have the car for 1 year or so, is there any of them which you think will drop value?
The guy at the last dealship said cost shouldn't be more than max 5000$ in terms of maintance since they're giving a 1 year full guarantee on it, and the value loss shouldn't be more than 3000$ selling it a year later, he on target with that?

This will be the first car i ever buy so that's why i want opinions
(I'm 20 if someone wonders... so that's why it's my first car)
Hi
I would not go for the 99 models myself. 00-01 if its the cash you want to save, 02-04 if you want the upgrade. Will cost you more.
I can only vouch for the C4 - its fantastic. Especially in snow and ice like we have in Sweden. I would not be too happy about driving a C2 in that weather - especially if its without PSM.

Depending on the conversion rate you used to go from SKR to $, they seem to be too expensive for being C2.
Personally I'm not fond of automatics myself. But thats up to you to decide. Shifting yourself - especially with sports exhaust - is a joy.
mocean - welcome to the best P-car Forum on the 'net! Why do you want to keep it for only one year? You might ant to also consider the car that man_of_ice is selling.
my 02 was reacently put up for sale, but it's a 6 speed. I'm not a fan of the TIp in a sorts car unless it was the Ferrari F1. Not that's fun to drive

if you want to buy a vehicle, why do you have to already consider re-sale value?? I mean you don't even own it yet...however you look at it you will lose money when selling a car..1 or 6 owner...how much will the re-sale difference really be?? 1000-2000 or 10,000?? In the end how can you put a value on driving pleasure?? Buy the car that you really really like...and ofcourse you got to buy one that is in the best condition and your wallet can afford...but if you had the choice of a 3 owner black 996 with 45K miles (and you really really love this car!!) or a purple (just to make my point) with 2000 miles and 1 owner (who was blind and never ever drove the Porsche! don't ask me how he got 2K miles on his car!!! probably the dealer did it!!)
What are you going to buy??? The purple one?? or the black on you really really love and is also in great condition!
