Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

Later on I might consider getting some more HP but for now I think I'm pretty well set all the way around!

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Hello everybody......... This is my first post here. I am dealing a 1998 996 Coupe, manual trans. 25k miles. I drove the car, it is in good condition overall. I really like the car, the ride, the handling, but wished it was a little bit faster. What are the best mods for this car? (engine, suspension and brakes).

POST 2Original post

Man, where to start....you can check my sig for a few ideas.. Welcome to the board and congrats on the car.

POST 3Original post

1) Time for a photo..... (Makes a good impression) 2) SC will give you a nice kick in the pants for around $12,000 -Eli

POST 4Original post

Evo chip and intake should give you a slight boost, but as Eli said, to get the most SC is the way to go...

POST 6 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Thanks for the info. I currently own a 1998 Viper GTS which I like very much but I am getting the 911 because I like it and also because it has 2 "extra seats". I already had a Porsche 944T and enjoyed it very much and it had a very strong top end. How fast is a SC 996?

POST 7Original post

996 SC is sort of like a 996-Turbo..... But don't expect to have the Viper power you might be looking for. Remember you also won't be at the pump as often as you are with you 8.0 V-10 (12 MPG) -Eli

POST 8 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I am getting less than 12mpg for sure. I know it wont be as fast as the Viper but I want to have an idea of how a SC 996 is like. Porsche guys dont drag race their cars as much as Viper owners but some of you must have done it. If possible let me know performance numbers.

POST 9Original post

Congrats with the purchase and welcome To gain real HP figures, supercharging is the only way to go... Modifying ECU, intake, exhaust, headers, cats, etc will get you about 20-30HP

POST 10Original post

I thought about getting the Viper before picking up the P-car but after some thought I figured with the amount of driving that I wanted to do it wouldn't be in my interest to do it. Later on I might consider getting some more HP but for now I think I'm pretty well set all the way around! -Eli

POST 12Original post

a 996 outperforms just about every car on the road, and is plenty fast, so for me, I'll only be doing an intake, exhaust, and possibly a chip.

POST 13 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I know a supercharger is the answer to big h.p. But what is the best: intake exhaust chip How much h.p. to the rear wheels? Thanks.........

POST 14Original post

Uh-oh... this could get ugly.. Karlooz, post your dyno sheets!! ps- in the past, there has been some heated debates about the actual gains these mods give...

POST 15Original post

It's not the horsepower alone. If my 300 hp 996 can stay up with a 500 hp viper at Road America. He leaving me on the straights and me catching him on the curves, thus staying together round after round. Fun!!! Suspension, etc. counts.

POST 16Original post

Welcome to the board. That's a very nice pair of cars- 996 and viper. As far as mods, the stock 996 is a fantastic car- put a supercharger in it and the fun factor will multiply.
