Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Hello, I have a 2003 C4S. I had my oil changed at the dealer near the end of summer and after the change I thought I noticed the engine warming much slower in the morning. I drive about 3 miles averaging about 20 mph through signals before getting on the freeway (typically about 5 minutes). It takes another 2-3 miles on the freeway to get the temp stabilized to just above 180. Seems slower than I recall and definitely slower than my other vehicles. While up on the coast this past weekend, outside air temp was 48F, and I watched the temperature closely. While travelling without stopping, at 35-50 mph, the temp took 7 miles to stabilize. Took it to the dealer shortly after the oil service and they said nothing was wrong...but that doesn't surprise me with this dealer. The temp maintains well once at that one point above 180. Doesn't go up or down with changes in load. So I think the coolant thermostat is okay. I understand this car has an oil thermostat. My theory is that is stuck open and allowing all the oil to circulate before the engine is warmed up. I'm assuming the thermostat is there to trap oil from going up to the coolers until the engine is warmed up. Am I close? Any suggestions? I live in the SF Bay Area (Calif.) so very moderate temperatures here. Thanks, Andy

Doesn't seem out of the norm for any car, especially in the cool morning temps.
