Read evidence and context

Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

6 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

  • Rennlist: 1 discussions

0 evidence records excluded for query context · 0 excluded by outcome qualification · 0 adjusted by outcome qualification.

0 acknowledgements have no verified action link; they do not establish a repair result.

Generation: 20261027T035758Z · outcome-qualification-6. Deterministic extraction; no AI model inference. How we use sources

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Does anyone have a B&M Short Shifter installed? If so do you find it a bit of a challenge to smoothly put it into 1st gear? I installed one over the winter and I love it except 1st seems like a pain!

There are many threads on a SS. I don't have any experience with it but I recall reading about notchiness after install. I could be wrong though.

POST 3Original post

Very notchy (not just first) til everything warms up.

I installed one into my C4 about a year ago and I love it A big improvement over the OEM shifter Not sure what notchie is, but when cold, it tends to be a little stiff until the car warms.

POST 5Original post

Two things. I also have a B&M SS on my '01 996. I find that of you select 2nd and then 1st, the synchros will be "happier" and you will have a smoother gear engagement and less wear. Second, if you haven't changed your transmission fluid recently, you should also do that as it made a difference in the ease of shifting on mine.
