Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

Suggestion
Anyhoo, to the OP, I ran across a site where a Boxster owner had a cracked head and undertook the repair on his own.
Leading evidence: 'Repair on his own' (no explicit attributable resolution; this is a reported action or suggestion). Across 1 matching discussions, The most frequently discussed action is 'Repair on his own' (1 discussions). For that action, 0 discussions report a resolution and 0 report an unsuccessful attempt. No action has an explicit, attributable resolution report under the current rules. These are forum reports and suggestions, not a confirmed diagnosis.

Suggestion
You can test the heat exchanger easily but in my experience they don't ever cause the intermix.

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

was told by 2 different tech's at 2 different dealers that its normal to have some oil residue in your coolant tank...on any other car usually means trouble
If you have oil in your coolant, you have coolant in your oil. That can't be normal for ANY car. Unless it's residue from assembly or something, which I've never seen in any water cooled car that didn't have oil/water intermix issues.
Anyhoo, to the OP, I ran across a site where a Boxster owner had a cracked head and undertook the repair on his own. He ended up fabricating the required tools. I did not bookmark the site but maybe you can find it with a search.
I saw you need a tool to hold the two cams together while holding the timing plus these cam chain tensioner bolt looking tools that thread through the block, neither of which you could make unless you had the specs.
Can you get away without using these tools?
I would think the cam chain tension is very critical.
Oil in coolant means coolant in oil. That latter is much worse than the former. The coolant flushes the bearings of lubricant and toasts a motor purdy darn quick. Unless you've had an overheat I'd be very surprised if the head gasket were bad. As outlined above, the most likely causes are oil/air heat exchanger leaking internally or a bad cylinder sleeve (slipped or cracked).
Porsche installs reman engines in the case of an intermix because I would guess that 95 percent of all intermix cases on the M96 happen somewhere in the case. You can test the heat exchanger easily but in my experience they don't ever cause the intermix. I even wouldn't bother trying a head gasket if an intermix is your problem.
Sorry, but it sounds like new motor time. Ask me how I know . . .
Run to a dealer you do not like and trade it in FAST if not under warranty. As a guy who has been through an engine repalcement, I wish I had the early warning that you have.
