Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

I did test drive an '02 Targa for sale in Charlotte, NC that rattled like crazy when closed.
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

I'm thinking of upgrading from my 02 Boxster S to an 02 Carrera Targa
Can anyone tell me their impressions of the Targa?
-ride
-power
-reliability
-winter ride
Just to name a few..
Thanks
-ride (GREAT)
-power (GOOD)
-reliabilty (SO FAR SO GOOD)
-winter ride (GOOD)
I love my Targa. I am not sure if it is the fact that it has limited production or the fact that I love all the glass. Good luck!!!
Juan,
I'm curious as to the basis of your comment about squeaks, rattles, leaks.
Do you own a current design Targa, or what is your experience with it?
Just wondering as my experience with the Targa has been quite good. I find it quieter and more squeak free than the cabs my friends own.
I've never heard of one leaking, either, and the top closes very tightly, so I'm curious where leaking would occur. Please fill us in.
I think the "squeak and leak" reputation was earned by previous generation Targas. It is said that rattles and leaks would appear over time.
However, the 996 Targa is so new, I doubt anyone has enough experience with the platform to draw a conclusion. I think they look like really cool cars (available at great deals, too).
I have an 03 Targa which replaced a 00 Boxster-s. The Targa is roomier, has more headroom, is way faster, and is, after all, a "911"! Shift into 3rd, and pass a car on a two lane, then you'll know....
Currently, I have an '02 Boxster S. I'm thinking of giving her up for the Targa. I'm figuring that the Targa can provide the best of both worlds.
Since I live in the NorthEast, I'm just curious to know whom else uses them as daily drivers, and what their impressions are.
I guess the impressions would be the same with Carrera2s as well.
Thanks
Here's a Pic of my '02 Boxster S. I'm thinking of trading her up for an '02 Targa. Love the car, just need something with a little more room, she is after all a daily driver. Besides, I worry about that soft top in unlikely neighborhoods.
I've had an '03 Targa since November and love it. The top works great and hasn't leaked a bit. There is some rattling of it occasionally over jolting bumps, but it's nothing I can't live with. I don't know how much a "cab" top rattles in comparison, but I see people complaining about their rattles all of the time. So, I can't imagine mine is too bad in comparison.
I did test drive an '02 Targa for sale in Charlotte, NC that rattled like crazy when closed. I bought an '03 because it was new, priced appropriately, and didn't suffer from the rattles. Apparently there is an adjustment opportunity for the rattling if you can find a shop that knows how to perform it. Relatively speaking, there aren't many of the Targa models around.
Anyway, I love opening the top, and do it everytime I can.

At the Chicago Auto Show a PCNA rep told me that Porsche now builds Targas only with a customer order. None are produced to fill the dealer's lots! I love mine, seems like the best of both worlds, stiff body/chassis and open air driving. I hope the salt and freezing temps leave soon....
I found a Targa in Texas for $58,000 w/only 15,000miles on it. I was wondering, if the top should rattle when driven, is that something that the dealer would be obligated to fix?
It seems as though, the only major issue with the new Targa's are that the top is so large in comparison to a standard moonroof, that the ajoining mounts may rattle. If Porsche would be forced to fit the bill on repairs, I'd be willing to take a chance.
What do you think?
Would you like a 2002 with 7000 miles Porsche Certified for $65,600? Just took it in trade today. Seal Grey with Black interior, original list was about $84k.
