I checked the sizing fairly carefully with both Tire Rack and Hoosier.

I haven't had a chance to get out in the garage and check things out, but I guess the true test is having them mounted and on the car.

Suggestion
You should not have any problems with rubbing but if you so, it will be on the inside with stock rims so you can always use some small spacers.

Coverage and how to read this overview
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

I just ordered some Hoosiers for auto-x use. I checked the sizing fairly carefully with both Tire Rack and Hoosier.
Looking at the fronts the Hoosiers look quite a bit wider than stock. A quick measurement of total width is stock 8 3/4" and the Hoosiers 10 1/2" I measured past the contact patch and included whatever seemed to be the actual edge of the tire. I'll be mounting these tires on the stock rims as a reference.
The overall diameters seem ok I'm just worried about clearance in the front.
Any help would be appreciated.
TIA
I don't have an experienced answer for you, and none that I haven't already said in your other posts.
I would, however, be interested in how you do with the tires you've got. What sizes, rubbing, etc. Let us know!
I went with the Hoosier A3 S03.
Front 245/35/18
Rear 285/30/18
I'd like to know if there will be an issue before I mount them since I don't know if the tires will be returnable after mounting.
Thanks Greg.
So you think that extra width will be ok?
I haven't had a chance to get out in the garage and check things out, but I guess the true test is having them mounted and on the car.
I just couldn't believe how much wider they were than the stock fronts.
Greg is right, the 996 has a lot of room for tires. The two most common Hoosier combos on C4s are 245/35/18-285/30/28 or 245/40/18-305/30/18. I think most would agree that you are better off with 305s on a big track but the 285 combo probably makes more sense for autox. You should not have any problems with rubbing but if you so, it will be on the inside with stock rims so you can always use some small spacers.
