Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

I've also adjusted my toe to just a touch of toe in.

I'm running SO3 right now, so far these tires are a huge improvement over the Continental Sport Contact 2 I had before.

So far, I have tried Pirelli PZero Assimetricos (1 set front, 2 rear), Bridgestone S03s (2 set front, 4 sets rears) and I'm now on my first Michelin Pilot Sports.

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

I did a search on the board and coudn't find this info...exactly
My drving habbits:
just started doing DE's so I want something that will work well on the track but i also put ~1200 highway miles on her a month too so i need something that will hold up.
pic from my first DE!
jbdmd,
I'm running SO3 right now, so far these tires are a huge improvement over the Continental Sport Contact 2 I had before. Quieter, dry grip is great, wet grip seems to be good and it seems to be wearing pretty well. I've heard some great reviews on Michellin, SO2A(?), and KD.
Since you've begun tracking your car, you may want to re-align your camber if you haven't already. My current adjustment which works is neg 0.5 upfront and neg 1.5 in the rear which works great for me. I've also adjusted my toe to just a touch of toe in. The camber settings reduced the understeer and it seems to have evened the amount of wear. The toe adjustment allowed for quick turn in but the car was a bit "twitchy" at highway speeds.
I like my Pirelli P Zeros way better than my Conti's. I hear the Pilot Sport 2's or the Bridgestone SO3's have better traction. I have over 8000 miles on my Rossos, and they are still running strong. Take a look at
www.wheelenhancement.com.
I got them there, and the guys are top notch, and experts in Porsche wheels & tires.
According to the Autocar, Pirelli Pzero N4 were designed for the 996. IMHO a far better tyre for everyday use than the SO, which I found quite noisy and harsh. The Pirelli also seems to offer higher levels of grip, but perhaps the trade-off will be lower tyre life?
You want good traction for DEs AND long tire life? Unfortunately, you can't have everything. You're just going to have to keep buying new tires. I am currently using Michelin Pilot Sport (the ones with the V grooves), and although I like them, I will probably try something else next time. Hopefully the Pilot Sport 2 will be available and affordable later this year. They're stock on the GT3 and I'm curious.
So far, I have tried Pirelli PZero Assimetricos (1 set front, 2 rear), Bridgestone S03s (2 set front, 4 sets rears) and I'm now on my first Michelin Pilot Sports. I think the Pirelli were the stickiest, but they wore out FAST!!!
thanks for the help so far!
my cab came stock with pilot sports
it seems the only thing that people have against them is that the are expensive
i was looking on tirerack and they are not really anymore expensive then anything else!
does anyone have a recommendation on where to buy them from?
Jason,
Best thing to do is go to E-bay and buy yourself a second set of wheels. These you can shod with R-compounds. You then have the best of both worlds. Long-lasting street tires on one set of wheels, and sticky glue R-compounds on the other set for the track.
Welcome to the addicting world of track! First will come packages from Tire Rack, then from Performance Products and Carnewal, then questions regarding caster/camber settings and spring rates and harnesses and rollbars, and next thing you know, there will be a tow vehicle and trailer in your driveway!!
Palting its a sickness. I am considering picking up an 80's 911sc and making it a pure track car...someobdy stop me please!
I keep trying to make my car be all things as is and that may not work?
How long does it take you to swap out wheels?
Do you do it at the track? or at home then trailer your pcar in?
