Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

Suggestion

You can order just the fob (I think its ~$100 list), order the key insert (which requires a VIN and must be ordered from PCNA in Atlanta and costs ~$70!), plus the dealer will have to program it using a PST2 tool at ~ 30mins of labor (~$50).

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

new key remote internals (electronics) NOT the entire key. Can I get this from Porsche or are they going to make me buy then entire thing to include the key? The factory key comes out of my remote housing so I would be happy if I could just find the body (housing) and the internals. Pelican Parts doesn't carry this. No idea where to look other than calling the dealer.

POST 2Original post

i went through this exercise recently. the dealer can sell you a new 'head' and reuse your blank, but you'll have to get the new head programmed and re-program your spare to match the new code...there's labor + the cost of a new head.

POST 3 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Can you tell me the cost? I only have the one remote key anyway so it's no biggy AND I hope to get the recoding done for free!

POST 4Original post

Hey Nick! I went through the same thing. When I bought my car from NXCess there in H-town, it only had one key fob. You can order just the fob (I think its ~$100 list), order the key insert (which requires a VIN and must be ordered from PCNA in Atlanta and costs ~$70!), plus the dealer will have to program it using a PST2 tool at ~ 30mins of labor (~$50). I got a discount as I am a PCA member, but its still a ripoff. My BMW keyfobs and keys cost about $45. BTW, I think you should get the GHL exhaust so I can hear it I just got my Aerokit today. It goes to the dealer tomorrow for paint. All thats left on my list is an exhaust, powdercoat my calipers red, and get some aluminum gauge faces. Don't you have the aluminum gauges? If so, are they factory or aftermarket? Do you like them? Ever sell your wheels? Still running my old 17s? -Dave '00 996 C2

POST 5 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Dave - Thanks for the tips. I'll go down to the local dealer and see what kind of a deal they will give me. I'm tired of using the key and not being able to unlock the passenger side door when I'm on a date. I am 99% sure about getting the GHL exhaust. The price is to good to pass up and I think I like the sound better than the Fabspeed. Yeap, the gauges in my car are the factory aluminum ones. I think they're pretty swett actually. I like them better than the standard black faces. The wheels are still sitting in my garage. I need someone to buy them from me as I haven't used them since I got my Kinesis wheels back. Come out to TWS on March 6-7 to say hi if you can.
