If so then you have to replace the entire assembly -- the amber piece cannot be removed.

I am a little confused as to your question, do you want to change the light bezels or update to the 2002+.

if you're talking about the triangle trim piece and yes, you can replace with clear (sort of smoke to me) trim piece by yourself.
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Hello All:
New to this forum as I just purchased (and take delivery Saturday) of a 1999 c2 in arctic silver with all the goodies. I am very excited but already this "mod" bug has bitten me and I am starting to look at (and sadly buy) accessories/mods!
I have a question about the front headlight cluster. I have the xenon lights on my c2 and am interested in trying to "modernize" the front appearance. Namely, this would involve getting rid of the yellow turn signals at the bottom of the front headlight cluster in favor of clear. Is this possibe? Where does one buy the pieces? For those of you who have done it- How tough is it to do? Any thoughts on cost (though I am sure that if I have to ask etc.........)
Any help would be appreciated and thanks in advance.
This addicition is far worse than my motorcycle.........
I may need therapy.
Congrats first off all, but I will suggest you become a full blown member so much this site can offer you..
I am a little confused as to your question, do you want to change the light bezels or update to the 2002+. I think you just want to remove the amber in the light, if i assume correctly , then yes you can do it, There is a few Members who have done it, and i am sure there is a DIY. I must agree with you the Porsche is way worse of an addiction the my bike( 04 Gixxer 750)
Do you have the old style headlights with the bottom piece in amber? If so then you have to replace the entire assembly -- the amber piece cannot be removed.
If you already have Litronics and just want to get rid of the amber lens inside the assembly (see picture) then check out this page:

If you have xenon I assume your headlight it's clear. if you're talking about the triangle trim piece and yes, you can replace with clear (sort of smoke to me) trim piece by yourself. read the owner's manual - pop out the headlights it's realy easy. cost around $50 bucks.
If you are talking about the yellow blubs like picture above (left side), you can purchase silver turn signal bulbs for around $30 bucks to get rid of the yellow look.
Good luck!
Yup, Dell is right. Check out the link in my previous post. You have to take a soldering iron to melt then break the amber lens inside the assembly -- it is not as simple as buying silver turn signal bulbs. (You get the silver bulbs AFTER you remove the amber lens if you truly want a clear look.)
WOW!
thanks for all of the information! I knem i would learn to love this site (and my wife would learn to hate it)
so- minor surgery to remove the amber insert does not look horrible.
that is exactly what i am going to do!
i also am looking at modeifying the rear light clusters.
programmatore- what a great link and so informative!
thanks everyone- i will post before and after pics!
the 6000k look really nice.....
how hot do they run?
i am fearful becuase there have been several posts about overrunning the electricla system and melting lenses.
thanks
Can anyone tell me if this "amberectomy" can be performed on standard halogen light pod or is the amber lens only able to be removed on litronics?
I opened mine up and can see the amber part but it seems three-sided, thick, and structural. Didn't want to start melting and removing bits until I talked to someone who's done it.
Thanks
if you look around... almost all the boxster that ive seen has the amber........ if you want to start a club....... the boxster crew would jump on board........ not to say there's anything wrong with boxster........
I..........don't..........understand..........what..........the......... .heck..........you're..........trying..........to..........say..........
Jackson,
There are two types of "standard" halogen assembly: ones that are all clear and the older ones (I believe for the 99 model year) with the amber bottoms.
From the picture in your avatar it looks like you have the older style amber bottoms which you cannot remove. The amber piece that we're talking about in the link is the rectangular amber lens INSIDE the enclosure, over the turn signal. Unfortunately, if you want to get rid of the amber in your headlight assembly you have no choice but to get the newer style, clear halogen assembly or upgrade to the Litronics Retrofit Kit.
being that I wanna be a future 996 C2 owners by the end of the yr, most likely a 99 or 00 model, I was just wondering a few things if you don't mind me asking:
1) how much did you pay?
2) since you're "taking delivery" did you buy it sight-unseen or did you check it out and get a full PPI b4 purchasing?
3) what "goodies" does it have?
and oh yea, I know what the bike obsession is like, unfortunately I didn't have mine long enough to start modding it... the biggest mods I did was get all the ugly purple and pink stickers off as well as stripping the purple off the wheels(bike was the right shade of blue for me, just happened to have the "g.ay" stickers)
yea I can think a wonderful idiot in a Chrysler Cirrus for cutting the life of my bike short, thankfully he didn't cut mine short too
Programmatore -- you are right. What I left out was that I just bought a set of the clear headlights on ebay and those are the ones I am removing the amber ffilter within the housing.
FYI -- the amber piece inside is thick and rectangular and bent in a squared off u-shape. It took 10 minutes each side to remove and I like the change. Pics after I polish and install the new lights.
