Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

It is a tire bar hanger to be used when changing the tire so you don't have to struggle to get the tire aligned with the holes in the "top hat." It also helps to keep the wheel from banging on the caliper or the brake disk.

Leading evidence: 'Use when' (no explicit attributable resolution; this is a reported action or suggestion). Across 1 matching discussions, The most frequently discussed action is 'Replace tire so you don't have' (1 discussions). For that action, 0 discussions report a resolution and 0 report an unsuccessful attempt. No action has an explicit, attributable resolution report under the current rules. These are forum reports and suggestions, not a confirmed diagnosis.

There is a "pin switch" located on the dome light housing which allows you to set the "courtesy lights" intensity to either high or low.

These are separate views of the same evidence. Frequency alone does not establish a fix, and these counts must not be added together.

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Mine are Bi Xenons.....but, i do not think they have the washers.....unless it is under the small polished metal oval beneath the light....and if so, I have yet to figure out how to activate the washers......yes, I have looked in the manual
Yes, the washers are under the chrome disk. The headlight washers will only work when the low beam or high beam lights are switched on. You have to pull the windshield washer lever towards the steering wheel or push it away from the steering wheel (I don't remember which way) to activate the headlight sprayer.
The 007-style chrome disk projection cannon is operated by pushing the stalk AWAY from the wheel. Trained operatives can launch both disks into the air at any speed over ~45mph. New washers cost $25 or so.
head light washers - did not know I had them. makes you wonder what else is in there.
I know I could read the manual, but this is always the last resort when all other options have been explored.
A test: who is aware of any obscure features that would not be known to most owners?
STOP, STOP! I'm laughing so hard I can't see the screen to read the rest of your post!
Test: obscure features
Answer: head light washers?
Oh, one more thing................
OK, here are some serious answers which apply to my '04 996:
1. There is an aluminum bar in the tool kit that is threaded at one end. It is a tire bar hanger to be used when changing the tire so you don't have to struggle to get the tire aligned with the holes in the "top hat." It also helps to keep the wheel from banging on the caliper or the brake disk.
2. The "courtesy lights" (small amber lights on the front of the interior door handles and on the light dome) stay on for approximately 2 1/4 hours after you close the door.
3. There is a "pin switch" located on the dome light housing which allows you to set the "courtesy lights" intensity to either high or low.
4. The right rear fog light is inoperable from the factory. Only the left rear fog light illuminates. The wiring harness is identical on both sides, but the brown wire on the right harness is not "hot."
5. Should the button to open the engine compartment become inoperable, there is an emergency release cable located under the left rear tail light assembly. However, you have to open the engine compartment in order to remove the tail light assembly. This engineering design MUST have been contrived during Oktoberfest!
Can anyone else add some obscure facts to this list?
i used them once. made such a freakin mess all over the front of the car with soap everywhere that i never did it again. i think you have to be going 80+ to operate them to ensure the water/soap runs off!!
Just for the record, and I believe I have this right, here is the findings from this thread:
All 2002+ are NOT xenons
All 2002+ are projector style lights
If you have factory xenons for 2002+ (which were Bi-Xenons) then you have headlight washers
Ugh, so which is it? Did they offer 3 options: Halogen, Xenon and Bi-Xenon? Or was it two options and the normal lights are Xenon lows with Halogen highs? So much confusion seems to surround this subject.........
I'm sure this is not the case!
All bi-xenon setups are setup such that when you "flash" your high-beams, they illuminate a halogen bulb. However, when you "turn on" your high-beams (by pushing the stalk forward so they stay on), you will illuminate the xenon high-beam.
The reason for this is because xenons take a small amount of time to illuminate, and firing them on and off in a "flash the high beams" type situation is tremendously bad for them.
