Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I've noticed as the years have gone by and I've got faster and better performing cars, I get dissatisfied with performance quicker. Anyone feel the same? Even in a Turbo? The last car I remember getting the longest feeling of satisfaction was my 95 M3 which in the scheme of things is not a very quick car by todays standards.

POST 2Original post

No, not satisfied at all. Would love some more torque. Previous performance car was a Viper. Love the planted feel and the handling of the Porsche though.

POST 3Original post

I'm so far from being able to drive this car near it's practical limits of performance and handling that I don't think I'll ever yearn for more.

POST 4Original post

You always get used to power no matter what. I had a Yamaha R1 that had around 160-165hp at 375 lbs and the thing was scary fast at first but soon I wanted to get more power out of it. It never ends if that is your personality. Also had a 600hp '69 Camaro, didnt take but a few months and it felt "slow", never ends.

POST 5Original post

I pretty much got my fill of FAST during an 8 year stint of roadracing motorcycles. I raced a GSXR 1100 and mostly a GXSR 750 Superbike which was even faster. I entered hundreds of races doing up to 7 a day on 4 different machines. It doesn't take much track time to realize you can't go fast enough on the street to get your speed FIX and it is fruitless to try. On the track it is quickly learned that driving finesse is more important than horespower for quick lap times. If you feel that constant need for more power and are quickly dissatisfyed with the performance of increasingly faster machines, I suggest you get some track time. This will put your focus in perspective and instead of more power you will want to learn how to control the power you have better. You will find this much more challenging and rewarding than the continual search for more power. With that being said, I have never ridden a motorcycle or driven a car that I felt had too much power, and I have been pretty fast. And yes it would be nice if my Carrera had more grunt, but I know that the most powerful motor that could be installed would not be enough. So I'm happy.

POST 6Original post

I've never had any complaints about performance.... Wouldn't mind a faster car though. But seriously I'd say that's pretty common among the sports car enthusiast crowd - that feeling of "just a little more would be great". I've found that switching between a Tahoe and the 996 cures that for me. After driving the Tahoe around for a few days the 996 always feels quick again.

POST 7Original post

I have a 208 hp '89 944...the C2 will seem FAST to me! It's all relative!

POST 8Original post

Im satisfied with the performance of the car. What Im unhappy with is I cant get close to the performance limits of the car other than on the track and that just doesnt happen as much as I would like. Of course who wouldnt want more torque?

POST 9Original post

Actually that bugs me a lot as well - you have all this power, handling, and capability and there's traffic all over the place. No place to really open it up except on the track and there's not one "close" to me.

POST 10Original post

Did everyone see the cool Porsche videos of the "new" 996?? That should convince everyone that these cars are top of the line racers! Of course the 993 intro video shows the narrator saying "These cars are designed to run wide open for a full tank of gas..."! Hence, we mere mortals can't drive these cars to their potential unless we are on a race track.

POST 12Original post

NEVER bored with performance.... just bored of light wallets......

POST 13Original post

Performance is a narcotic....you develop a tolerance quotient to a given level of horsepower and speed, but then need more in order to get the same feeling you got from that initial RUSH. It never ends. The only end is an acceptance of the fact that at some point, you either run out of money for the next "level" or develop a realization that you have to stop somewhere. Chuck....

POST 14Original post

If you have have admitted that you are powerless over speed and it has become a problem than I would say we are all in the right place- I can never get enough speed just running out of dough

POST 15Original post

Not much of a speed frick anymore. Did that at 16 All I want is it to look fast and sound fast

POST 16Original post

I can say that I have toned it down alot in recent years but I dont think anything is too fast for my taste even if I dont run at the limit.

POST 17Original post

i usally drive my car to school and then to work like a normal car is i forget about the perfromance i kind of blank out and think im just driving a normal car.... and then some days when the roads is right i hammer it till i get scared. so yea im satisfied with the performance.

POST 18Original post

I absolutely love the smooth power of the C4S I have for the street. At my age of late 50's it is plenty enough. Like some others here, I have raced championship cars most of my life and I understand power and track speed. I have always separated the track and street with a very big and respected line. However, when I am in a race car there is never enough power at some point on the track. I agree that you tend to get used to power rather quickly and then want just a little more. Here is a pic of my vintage race car, if you ever get a chance to drive or ride in an authentic CUP car - don't pass it up!

POST 19Original post

Finally satisfied...car is beyond me....stock tt 2002. But, I'll probably want to do something in a couple of years.....by then hybrids will be at 400hp .... :-)

POST 20Original post

funny thing is my current car(91 VR4 w/ basic upgrade, ~400 crank hp) is faster than the 996 C2 I'm dreaming about and will hopefully own by year's end, but I could care-less I'd take the newer C2 over my old rice-rocket any day, not to mention the fact that by the time I get back from Austria it will have been about 5 months since I last drove, so ANYTHING will be fast to me, even my parent's 05 Monte Carlo LS, which I believe the "LS" stands for "Lame and Slow" I guess it depends on how you define "performance" for most of us "ricers" and the American f-body, pony-car, or muscle car guys it's how long it takes you to go from 0-1320' and what your speed at that distance is... thankfully I'm trying to grow up and realize the finer things in life, such as the Porsche philosophy of not necessarily having the highest top speed or quickest 0-60 times... but having a great balance of all aspects of "performance" to make it the best all-around car on the road and oh yea, I think this picture says it all:

POST 21Original post

and oh yea, I did have a bike until an unfortunate accident back in Sep where it was totalled, thankfully I wasn't "totalled" as well, but even with that as my primary vehicle when my old clutch started to go on the VR4, I still enjoyed driving it My toys, not bad for a 22yr old college student:

No, it was a drag car, you are on top of things Tim
