Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Gentle men, i have a 1999 Carrera 2 Manual transmission. Last week while i was driving i heard a noise coming from the engine then the engine stopped. i tried to turn it on again but i couldnt. i took it to my local dealer ship and they almost checked everything in the car. Till now they didnt find the problem. The engine do work now but with a real noise from the inside. they checked the Crank shaft and it was ok. someone told me it maybe the Pressure clutch. Im really confused. any sugguestions????

POST 2Original post

to pick up car after having dropped it off for any work/serice/diagnostics, be prepared to leave car if upon your very thorough inspection the symptom/problem still exists or something else is amiss that wasn't before you took car in. If the service department believes it solved the problem, you are entitled to an explanation of what was done, and why. You can't expect to receive a degree in automotive engineering in this discussion but you can expect answers, understandable answers to what was wrong? Why did it go wrong? What was replaced, fixed, adjusted, done? Are there any post-repair things that need being done? If engine cranks ok, starts up, idles smoothly but noisy, noise can be almost anything from a bad/loose/worn clutch or release bearing, serpentine belt or one of its idler rollers/tensioner, any one of the various accesory drives the serpentine belt spins (power steering pump, AC compressor, etc.), secondary air injection pump, engine compartment cooling fan, water pump, or something deep inside (and usually serious) in the engine. With tranny in neutral, depress and release clutch. If this affects noise in a substantial way, suspect clutch (or something related to it). Apply brakes, turn steering wheel, turn on/off AC -- each one at a time -- and see if you notice any difference in noise. If for instance you crank steering wheel lock to lock (but don't hold it at either extreme for any length of time) and noise changes, perhaps this indicates a power steering pump is going bad. Turn on lights. If alternator or drive bad this added load at idle may cause noise to change. Or you can take car back to dealer and this time speak with service manager about his shop properly id'ing the source of the noise. You do not want to suggest that it is the clutch -- for isntance -- because you'll get a new clutch and that may not fix the problem. You want the dealer and its factory trained service personal to use the skills they were said to possess when you bought the car to now apply those skills and their experience in promptly and correctly id'ing the source of the problem. Remain calm, polite, at all times. Sometimes I like to take notes of what was said, who I talked too, when, etc. My excuse -- though unfortunatey true -- is I'm a bit hard of hearing and want to make sure I note the details correctly. Be sure when you speak with service manager you mention because of the noise you have lost enjoyment in the use of the vehicle and more importantly you feel very concerned about the road worthiness of the vehicle, the safety of the vehicle and its driver and any passengers. If no one can tell you what source of noise is, no one can assure you it doesn't represent a risk to your safety and that of your passengers. A car dealer/service department owes you reasonable care and skill in servicing/repairing the vehicle. Sincerely, Macster.
