Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

13 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

0 evidence records excluded for query context · 0 excluded by outcome qualification · 0 adjusted by outcome qualification.

2 acknowledgements have no verified action link; they do not establish a repair result.

I don't think it is my t-pressure b/c the car was just at the dealer for the right pull (which is still not fixed by the way).

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

If I am driving down the highway in the 90mph range, when I put on the brakes to slow down (gently) the steering wheel seems to vibrate as I pass through 75mph. Normal? Any thoughts on what this could be? Last time I ran into this problem was 3 years ago on an X5. Apparently the tire pressure was wrong. I don't think it is my t-pressure b/c the car was just at the dealer for the right pull (which is still not fixed by the way). 03 C4s

POST 2Original post

smjjpres - did they fit the adjustable lower control arm?

POST 3Original post

resonance at a specific speed is often balance related...........how bad is it and is the range getting wider?

POST 4 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

No they have not fixed the adjustable arm yet. I was away for a bit and just followed back up with them today. We'll see.

POST 5Original post

You might want to consider having the front rotors checked for warping. It can cause steering wheel shimmy when braking.

POST 6Original post

How about getting all pending problems fixed to see if the vibration goes away. Also, don't rely on the dealer for tire pressures, check them yourself. If the vibration is strictly during braking, it is very likely that you have warped rotors as wbgordon suggested.

POST 7 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Is there anything that I can do to see if the roters are warped or does it require a professional eye?

POST 8Original post

I'd take the car to the local Porsche dealer or a shop that specializes in Porsches. If the rotor(s) is warped, it will have to be replaced. If so I would request OEM parts only. Cost is about $600.00 per set of two, including brake pads.

POST 9Original post

As long as your car is under warranty, you should have the dealer look into it.

POST 10 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I have 3K miles on the car. Can the rotors warp in that short time frame? Or could they have come damaged from the factory?

POST 11Original post

A rotor can warp anytime, anywhere, commonly after you drive the wheel through a puddle of water after getting the rotor hot from braking. The sudden change in temperature causes the metal to warp. As Viken suggested, check first with the dealer to see if they will cover it under warranty. A rotor is a wear item, meaning usually it is NOT covered under a warranty, but since this happened to you at such a low mileage, it might be looked at differently.

POST 12Original post

For a more complete education, see the attached. Rotors rarely "warp" http://www.stoptech.com/whitepapers/...otors_myth.htm If you are getting "pounding" when you brake as opposed to a vibration at only a certain speed, then it is likely that you have transferred some brake pad material onto the rotors. For a porsche used in normal driving conditions, especially with your limited milage this is unlikely, but it does happen. Audi has had this problem, at least they had it on the 2000 MY cars. Porsche brakes need to be scrubbed off a bit after they sit for a while, but this scrubbing off is only a brief process of a couple of brake applications over a distance of 50 yards or so. If you are experiencing this vibration at only a certain narrow speed range say between 60 and 70 miles per hour, AND you experience it ONLY during braking, then it is gotta be brake related. If you have transferred brake pad material to the rotors, you can tell by looking at the rotors, but you have to know what you are looking for as the difference this causes in rotor thickness is barely measurable. Look for the outline of the brake pad "tatooed" on to the rotor. The article I attached tells you all you ever want to know on the subject.... Good luck

POST 13 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Thank you for your help. The article is very helpful. I will drive the car again today to try an narrow down the speed at which the vibration occurs. Could be some excess pad material on the rotors though. Thanks again !
