Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

Leading evidence: 'Use rennlist' (no explicit attributable resolution; this is a reported action or suggestion). Across 1 matching discussions, The most frequently discussed action is 'Use rennlist' (1 discussions). For that action, 0 discussions report a resolution and 0 report an unsuccessful attempt. Use some variety of spray lube where the shafts overlap

Suggestion
If I remember correctly you can lube it by removing the lower dash and using some variety of spray lube where the shafts overlap.
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Having a problem with my '03 C4S steering adjustment. I am able to release the locking lever. I am unable to telescope the steering column though. Any thoughts? Sent from my iPhone using Rennlist
On my 03 C4S once the lever is released, a firm, hard steady pull moves it up....unless it's already up...then a firm hard steady downward push moves it.
My 1999 Cab steering wheel telescopes. If it doesn't, why does it have the lever there? That makes no sense. It has to be standard with the 996. Make sure the lever is fully down and tug/push hard. It may not if the steering lock is engage, so wiggle that free first.
They all telescope, no tilt. I've had a few cars that were very difficult to telescope, I assume because it was rarely used. If I remember correctly you can lube it by removing the lower dash and using some variety of spray lube where the shafts overlap.
narkose,
I remember I went thru the same issue on my first attempt.........keep trying, it will give way.......hold sides at 180 degrees and push (or pull) firm and steady......then try top and bottom. It will give eventually....
I wanted mine back further than the Porsche adjustment. I bought one of these.

Gert at Carnewel can get them. He doesn't list them you need to ask.

So I figured it out, the steering wheel was already fully extended and it just needed so firm continuous pressure and it was pushed it.
Funny thing is I prefer the previous position so it is back out again.
When I first got my car, and moved the seat almost all the way back, I was reaching for the wheel and thinking it must be telescoped all the way out (because it wasn't moving), oh well. Then, one day I pulled the wheel as if to rip the damned thing off the car - and it moved towards me finally!
A tilt would be awesome though. What, too fragile with a tilt, according to Porsche engineers?
